Ignition Keys

I had no luck finding ignition keys locally for my Big Dog
Some of you in bigger city's might not be a problem but in the middle of no where Nevada they aren't available.
I looked online and found them but for some reason they are allot more expensive than most keys, I guess its like everything else on a Big Dog LOL
I was able to get a better price by ordering 11 keys so I will have some extras to sell if anyone else is having a hard time finding them.

Damn you flyinlow I guess that answers my question as to whether I should integrate it permanently or build two units. I guess I'm building two units. Gotta keep the customer's happy right.

I would be willing to buy a couple of those blanks off of you. I checked every lock and store in a 20 mile radius and couldn't find any blanks. Just let me know how much, and how you want to be paid.

I live in a small town (10.000 population) in Spain.... My bike arrived with 1 key only... took it to the small shop in town and the guy just cut a couple more from the original. :2thumbs:

That's what I want to do also but nobody here has the blank to cut so I had to order the blanks online

You can get a new ignition for less than the cost of the key at tractor supply, I put a new one in 2 weeks ago, and not only was it cheaper, but the bike starts quicker, and the key is much more secure. There are some guys on here that talk about which ford tractor switch it is. I'll look and repost later.

Just got a new key switch myself. Picked it up at Atwoods. Its a simple 1939-64 Ford 8N ignition switch with two wires and two keys. Perfect fit. $10.42 out the door. I'll bet a lot of places will have them other than Tractor Supply or Atwoods. Anywhere you can find tractor parts cause its a common switch. Wonder why BDM didn't use them to begin with??

I seriously considered the tractor switch but have had no problems with my stock switch the key is solid in it and doesn't fall out I have been a Mechanic since 1979 and over the years have had problems with some of the cheap imported switches so decided even if it cost a little more to get key blanks in the long run it is worth it for me, and I want two spare keys so would have to get one cut anyway .
But I do fully understand deciding to replace the switch if that's what you want to do.

Key Switch Replacement

I have 2003 Chopper and bought the key switch from tractor supply. It was around .040" larger than the stock switch, but about 2 mins. with a dremel bit solved that and it fits well.

My question is, stock switch has red and orange wires leading to the white plastic 'plug' leading up back into the harness, and the new switch has yellow/black.

My first thought is splice red to yellow, and orange to black to be in the correct key posistion, but I'm not 100% sure.

Anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't matter in a two wire switch.
The switch basically does the same thing as touching the two wires together.
