Ignition Curves for ThunderHeart ASM5012

Are there any ThunderHeart ASM5012 Ignition Module users out there with a good curve for the S&S 117"?

I can use the preset curves but the module allows the programmer to customize the curves and save them as *.SLK files.

For now I'm using a prest setting "4" (32 degee adv with 5984 rpm limit).

When I made a similar swap of a Dynojet III Module on the Buell, there were a number of Buell riders on the Buell forum that had all kinds of ignition curves.

Just wondering...

Thanks, Cor.

Depends if you have any engine modification done to your Bike. I live in South Texas (McAllen) and I used to run position 4 on mine. I kept on hiking it up to see if it would ping and it never did. So I maxed it out to Position E which is 36 degrees with the Rev Limiter set a 6240 :D. The reason I did that is because I have a few goodies under the hood that will take that timing. Do a search on here and you will find what others are running and what work best with different combos and locations (sea Level) and so on.

Carlos,
I have the module on setting 4, as recommended by many of the posts. I had no idea the bike could take so much advance.

I live in Houston, have a K&N air cleaner and V&H big radius pipes with no baffles.

After reading the programming instructions again last night I see that the user can create their own curves. Have you gotten into changing the curve you are using?

Thanks, Cor.

If i'm not mistaken carlos has zero deck, headsported, bigger valves, cam change, exhaust, and carb and on and onand that's just what i've read..I think ....I have done some and now gonna finish with john sachs before long....but yours sounds pretty much stock...I don't think I would run 4..i'm thinkin s&s recommends 28-29 degree timing on the 117...could be wrong but I would check into it..mine is set up at 10.5-1 compression 600 cam and lots of other goodies and i'm only runnin 4-5 depending on time of year....just my opinion not trying to step on toes and still learning...so maybe your ok...but sure hate to see anything happen to agood engine...peace and your right about makin your own tune..I looked into that but didn't find any and deffinitly not gonna do my own till I know what i'm doin...might be dead before then.....lol

I have not gotten into setting ignition timing via the program that came with the Thunder Heart. I just adjusted the switch manually on the Module itself.

I run a wood 650 Prowler Cam and spring, hydro-solid lifters, Ported and polished head with the 2.02 intake and 1.605 exhaust Valves. The heads have the squish groves cut in them to knock of the detonations. I used the comatic Head Gaskets 0.030 and 0.010 base gasket, while the stock would be 0.043 compressed head and 0.020 base. I gained 0.023 without cutting the cylinders, however I did have 0.030 cut off the head which gives me about 10.5 to one compression. I run the Street Walker RPgeez 2 into one 7.25" Pipes and a XXX Carb with two Thunder jets. No I don't do wheels but if I get on it in first it will fish tail all over the place and put a smile on your face :D while it also makes you pucker up on the other end :D.

For now that is all I ever do to the ignition. I have on hand and will someday real soon install the S & S, IST Performance Ignition System which will automatically adjust the ignition timing. The Intelligent Spark Technology (IST) will adjust to optimize engine timing will accommodate changes made to an engine configuration. :2thumbs: I think I am nuts but I enjoy fucking things up so I can fix it again

Holy cow, that's a lot of modifications.

My goal for the K-9 is reliability, not performance. My 117ci S&S is stock other than the no baffle exhaust pipe, bigger main carb jet and air filter.

I took on a short ride this evening with ignition curve 4 (32 degrees advance). Wow, I can tell how much smoother the engine runs.

I baby the bike since it's given my a lot of electircal problems lately. Hence, I'm not pushing the engine to risk any detenation...not that I can hear.

On the shovelhead I can hear the valves start to clatter when I had too much advance (detontation).

Thanks, K-9 Cor.
