I was told my scooter has "Spark knock"

I talked to a mechanic the other day about adjusting my valves and told him what it was doing. He said he believed the valves didn't need adjusting once the push rods were locked and he said I had Spark knock from the ignition needing resetting.

It runs great, starts great, but at certain higher RPM's you can hear sounds like valves rattling in the top of the motor.Mine is a 107 and he said the 117's were worst. I let off throttle, rpm's go down just a tad and it goes away.

Ok, I trust you guys thoughts on my scooter getting fixed correctly. If it is an ignition issue should I let him reset it, hope it lasts, or get the crane ignition and find someone to install it to get the most out of the motor?

I am asking because of being unsure which direction is best, I am not sure so I ask.

Thank you in advance,

Ray

Assuming you're already using the highest octane gas you can get let him adjust it AFTER marking the original position of the cam sensor. If there's any problem you can just turn the sensor back. If your timing really is too far advanced there's a chance of piston damage from heat so it's worth a shot...

Could be pinging from detonation if the advance curve is off or not kicking in....valves being off would be noisy at a range of RPMs. If this only occurs when under load and you get on the throttle, then it's likely the ignition advance curve being wrong.

You running the stock ignition?
