I thought my clutch cable snapped but when I got it apart it is whole. After a day's Run I stop to have a bite to eat when I got back out and tried to leave I grab the clutch and had some resistance before what I thought happened was a snap and then all play in the clutch lever just like when a clutch cable snaps. Also after it snapped or what I thought was a snap I tried to limp home by getting it rolling and then dropping it into gear but I then found out that moving the shifter up and down any number of times did nothing so I was able to make the neutral light come on and off when it was in neutral apparently. Today I took it apart and everything looks like it should and the clutch cable is not broke on either end or in the middle. I'm not sure where to look next I would rather not have to take apart the left side if I don't have to but I don't see anything wrong. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Several things could have happened, clutch hub nut might be loose or the clutch carrier cold be cracked or a trans main shaft breakage. That's if your cable is not broken!

I had the exact same thing happen to me with only 500 or so miles on my K9 250. It seems there was no grease in the housing that the clutch cable goes into on the lower side & there is a very small throw out bearing that goes around the clutch rod. With no grease the bearing failed.

I'm grateful for all the advice I have very limited time to do some of these things because I'm busy but man I wish I was riding. I need a back up bike. Every time this dog goes down it's an ordeal.

I can check those ball bearings I don't know where that smaller ball bearing the fellas talking about is there wasn't a ton of grease in it but there was grease. But I can look at that stuff easy enough it's still apart. I just don't know what I'm looking for I guess it all looks normal to me.

KC,
The bearing I'm refering to is a flat circular piece with a hole in the middle that fits around the clutch rod. Its about the size of a quarter maybe less. Mine shattered due to no grease in the housing. When we took the cover apart we didn't really notice anything but found a small piece of the bearing under the bike. Harleys have the same type setup but theirs run in a bath of oil so no problems. I picked up a new bearing at the local harley shop.

pull out the clutch push rod and see if it is chewed up. if it is, i would say the throwout bearing is gone.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to all the great advice I was getting. I finally had an opportunity to work on the motorcycle and I couldn't figure out anything wrong with it so I cleaned all the parts and grease them all back up and put it all back together and everything's fine. Go figure sometimes things just need to be cleaned up put back together I guess. I put the push rod all the way in and then backed it off a quarter turn like it says in the manual. I held it in place while I put the lock nut on and everything seems to be okay but I'm still having trouble keeping the slack adjustment correct on the cable itself I don't know what I'm doing wrong it might have been the problem in the first place. I get it the way I want and then I run down the road and it loosens on me then I get all kinds of play in my clutch lever. I'm sure I'll figure it out. Tomorrow we have a ride down here in Bama we call it the Angel Ride.

Thanks again y'all.
