I think my trans is about to bit the dust

Is it possible that when you replaced the new belt that your alignment was off just enough that over time, you've worn the edge of the belt off? I would remove the belt and expose the drive pully to see if there is any slack in it, i.e. worn bearings. If it's snug and there's no obvious movement, replace and re-align the belt so that it travels in the center of both the drive and rear pully. Just food for thought.
I would also check the transmission bolts and make sure there tight.

Make sure there is no end play in the pulley, then check belt alignment, and if that is ok, check trans alignment and shim. If there is end play in the drive pulley, open the top cover and make sure you haven't lost a c clip on the mainshaft or something.

I would think if he had that much end play he would have a leak of some sort such as my trans did. My main shaft bearing is worn. Maybe aligned the rear tire incorrectly?

Looks like mine did when the nut loosened up on the pulley main shaft (allowed the belt to run against the cover).

Loosen the belt and see if you have play in the front pulley (as Moespeeds said).

If the nut has loosened, you'll need to check the splines on the shaft & pulley along with replaceing the quad seal.

It has never set in the middle of the front pulley. it was about 1/8" from the edge
Have you ever thought that maybe it was never aligned properly to begin with? A lot would have to go wrong for the nut to come loose on the drive pully. Once the nut it tightened, there should be 2 small screws that are put in place beside the 2 flat sides of the large nut, keeping the nut from turning and coming loose.

Update on my dog. It turns out that the rear wheel bearings were bad after all. Getting them replaced now. I also had a transmission main shaft seal leak. Thanks for your help.

hey guys, the new gates belts have small ribs on the out side, Why? I don't know. I just changed the belt on a chopper, It had wear on the side of the belt. I checked the alinement of the rear tire before we loosened anything up, and found the tire was cocked to the left, which caused the side belt wear
