That is the top of the belt. But the tooth side looks the same. When I pulled the cover off the pully you can see where it had rubed the inside of the cover.

This is an 07 K9 with anout 15,000 miles on it. That is a new belt with about 800 miles on it. I also replaced the clutch with the bandit at the same time.

If Im looking at it correctly, it looks like about 1/8" of the belt has the top shaved off?? Maybe there is some debris stuck in the front pulley cover?

WTF?

Could you please take a close in focus picture of the belt from the side view?

Where's the pulley teeth...can't see any?

Either the top of the belt layer is gone or the belt is inside out.

Why do you think the transmission is bad?

Did you replace the rear wheel bearings while the rear wheel was off? Should have.

That is the top of the belt. I ordered it from BDPP. the one that I replaced the top looked the same

Check the bolt that holds the belt guard to the pully cover. I bet it backed out and rubbed the belt until it sheared the bolt head off and as it came off it would have rode on the top of the belt until it reached the front pully causing the marks on top of the belt.

I think my trans has or is about to bit the dust. I went out to adjust my belt last night and this is what I found.
The belt looks fine, except for the outside edge looks like something is grinding on it. The pulley itself looks like something has been grinding on the teeth/edge. You should see the rounded edges of the pulley teeth.

Alan,
It was the cover its self. you can see where it started to rub a hole on the inside of the cover.

I think my trans might be going out. letting the pully move and then the belt move off of the pully and rubbed the cover.

Where are the grooves on the rear pully? Maybe I'm looking at it wrong but if those pics are the belt on top of the rear pully, seems like we should see the grooves of the rear pully that the belt fits on. Never seen a belt that has the same groove pattern on both sides. Something really strange here. Definitely need more pics.

Brad....the side of the belt has been grinded down. The grooves that are normally on top of the belt have been grinded down. What you are seeing in the pic is the bottom of the belt itself. Half of the belt has been grinded down. Hope I explained that right. :D

Is it possible that when you replaced the new belt that your alignment was off just enough that over time, you've worn the edge of the belt off? I would remove the belt and expose the drive pully to see if there is any slack in it, i.e. worn bearings. If it's snug and there's no obvious movement, replace and re-align the belt so that it travels in the center of both the drive and rear pully. Just food for thought.
