i know its been run into the ground cam and rocker ?

looking to install a 600 cam, i know about the springs, look for the 640 red stripe,my question is on the roller rockers since i have tp i need to look for tp roller rockers? and not S&S, also on decking should i go for zero, i have an 06 ridgeback, V&H big radious, with big city baffles ,jet kit,stock air cleaner,thanks inadvance

If you have S&S red stripe springs,you're in good shape.If not you can use any spring that will accomodate the lift of your cam,and have spring pressure of about 175 psi.or a little more on the seat.I probably wouldn't run more than 185 psi.
You need to use S&S rocker boxes,and I would suggest S&S rocker arms as well.If you have TP rocker boxes,you're leaving yourself wide open for major valve guide problems.

Not if he has the correct rocker ratio. The TP boxes will work fine if you set them up right unlike BDM did. BDM redid mine over 5000 miles ago and they have been great ever since with the TP boxes. They just put different components in them. I would say if you get it tore down or if you have a BDM dealer tear it down and they find any damage due to the wrong parts inside, BDM may replace the internals with the correct parts.

Look into it.

There is a big question if the TP boxes are really the problem or not.... It could be the installation of the boxes out of alignment that causes the guide wear. Raywood has 55-60.000 miles with no upper end issues.. True the installation of S&S Rocker boxes will eliminate the possibility of an alignment issue but $$$ is sometimes a factor..

I've heard of customers not having any problems,buttttttttttt I can't gamble in my business.Also S&S tilts their valves at a little different angle to get valve to valve clearence.For piece of mind I would have to go with the S&S top end parts on the S&S motor!Would be the only way I would stand behind the work.

I'm having mine done right now and Andy (mechanic) said the same thing about the angles being slightly different. I think my valves (already been changed to 2.000 and 1.605!) and guides were ok but the seal on the rear head was leaking oil into the cylinder. Whether thats as a result of the TP boxes I don't know.

With the S&S head the valve angles should be the same regardless of whose rocker box is on it. The difference in angle would/could be in the rocker arms and/or the rocker base not the valves or springs

The TP boxes on my 05 had roller tip rockers :hi:

??:confused: ?? All the heads are S&S...... Thus the "Valve" angels are the same...
Using the Loose fitting TP boxes (or any other brand that fit loosely)could allow for the contact between the rocker tip/roller, and the valve steam to possibly be out of spec of the ideal geometry.. Thus pushing the valve stem at an angle other than straight down. and causing an accelerated guide wear situation... :2thumbs:

What I'm sayin is that S&S heads with TP rocker boxes have the same valve angle as S&S heads with S&S rocker boxes. The 05 and 06 bikes had S&S heads with TP rocker boxes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but Big Dog never used TP "heads" just the TP rocker boxes.

If the valve angles are different then S&S would have had to be the one to cast heads with different valve angles.:hi:

My 08 has S&S rocker boxes, "non" roller tip rockers, .585 single wound behive valve springs and a .546 cam. Yours should be the same but cams have varied before. You can easily pull the front rocker cover to confirm everything but the cam:2thumbs:

You are right , always S&S.
It's just that a lot of assumption of the TP boxes Quality being questionable and the reason for the guide wear... TP boxes are a good product... On TP heads...... the issue may be with the installer not aligning them properly...

Anyway enough beating of a dead horse :up: S&S heads and S&S boxes... Can't go wrong :2thumbs:

so is it as easy as just replacing the tp boxes for s&s, unbolt and reinstall and thats it? no head removal, no this or that just a bolt on replacesment,this has gotten way confusing here,,just like changing out the valve covers on a small block chev?

pretty easy. just need to get the SSW+ manual from S&S. gives step by step instructions with TQ specs and bolt tightening sequence.
probably need to readjust the pushrods afterwards. that'd be the most technical aspect.

NOT QUITE that easy.
Biggest issue is to figure out whether your lifters have travel limiters in them.Some SSW 117"s had,and some didn"t.Makes a HUGH difference in valve adjustment,which you WILL NEED TO DO.

FWIW,A call to S&S tech with your motor #,will sometimes get you an answer on the lifters.
