I just snapped my rear pulley

What's up fellow riders. I just got thru polishing up the big dog and was looking forward to a nice ride. I've got over 17,000 miles on my 2004 chopper and love the bike. I've spent a lot of money over the years on all the extras and had to replace just about everything you can think of due to general wear and tear. In the last year I've noticed my tranny scratching( anyone know what cause a loud scratch when in neutral and lower gears ????) and was anticipating having to replace the baker 6 speed....... Great more money I'm gonna have to blow! Back to my ride, as I was enjoying taking off and getting after it all of a sudden that sound and no go. I couldn't believe it. Had my tranny finally crapped out. When I got to the side of the road I couldn't believe what i saw. The rear pulley had completely snapped at all three connecting points and was disconnected. Wow how could this happen? After looking thru the forum and searching for a replacement pulley I decided I would post and look for feedback. After reading about chain conversations and added throttle response (I have a need for speed and would love extra torque) I'm considering all my options. Also keep in mind though I understand mechanics and the general workings of motorcycles I DON'T DO THE WORK ON THEM MYSELF. This makes me reliant on a shop technician as well as the much extra expenses. Thanks to anyone for there input and response.

before you embark on the chain conversion path, research how often you will need to replace the chain and I'll wager you will keep the belt.
And more throttle response? more torque? Not going to happen, chain is heavier than the belt so less acceleration, what you will get is more jerks and vibration which might make you think you have better throttle response.
