I did something REALLY stupid

I must have put lock right on the clutch push rod jam nut last time I had it apart. Now I can't get the f'n thing of! Any suggestions? I put a little heart on it with a touch, but nothing. I keep losing grip and starting to round the nut.

with any luck, you used blue. if so, acetone will break it down. put some on the threads, and continue to do so often, until it starts to break loose. would probably help to leave the bike on the kickstand so the acetone will work it's way down the threads. if it is red, it's gonna take heat.

More heat and use a 6 point socket, less likely to round off. Don't worry about holding the allen screw just loosen the whole thing.

$10 heat gun from Harbor Freight should help.

thanks for the quick responses. I wad wondering about having to hold that allen to back off the nut. I'll try a socket only. Also do those heat guns work better than a torch? I know probably safer, but do they put out as much heat? I've never used one, but I'll give it shot if better.

750° on low 1500° on high.

Heat gun in my opinion just a little safer...its how I get my clutch hub nut everytime....

Use heat gun and get a set of channel locks if need be. You can always replace the nut when you get it off for next to nothing.

X3 6pt has a flat edge against all side of the nut...less likely to round and Loctite is broken by heat.

strange thing last night. put a 6 point socket on and thought I'd give it a crank before added the heat. the nut started moving EASY. even turned on the clutch push rod. everything was loose. I guess the heat I applied the day before did something as it cooled? weird but all take it. got the rod out and checked the drive pulley.

heat is great to work stuff on and off. On certain articles on down hole under reamers we undercut the ID on object #1 about .020. Heat it with temp sticks to 1800* then press it on to object #2. The heat will expand it about .025 to .030. We then toss it into a vat of cooling oil to increase the hardening of the metel, & gain tensel streingth, and having object #1 cool down and shrinking back to it's original machined size. The object #1 & #2 are so tight they are not welded buy act as if they are.

I'm always putting a good helping of lock tight on every nut and bolt because I have plenty that seem to loosen up on me!

I don't think it was too much to drink when you put it on, I think it was too much to drink trying to get it off, prolly had the wrong size wrench:roll:

yea on these bikes we lock tight EVERYTHING...
