I am finally doing it. I have a buddy who custom builds and paints bikes and he finally talked me into letting him paint my bike. He is going to repaint the fenders, gas tank & side covers and put some custom one of a kind flames on it. On the side covers he is paintnig some maltese crosses that will look like they are raised by putting shading in them. I am really nervous since that is all he is telling me.

I don't know what colors or what they will look like but he is charging me only $300. All I have to do is help him take my bike apart and put it back together. We will start on it Sunday afternoon and he will have it back to me by next weekend.

I will post before and after pics as soon as possible.:2thumbs:

Throw him a few extra bucks. If he's nice enough to do it for nothing, he'll appreciate the extra cash which shows that you appreciate the paint job.

Oh I plan on it. he is on hard times and we have bought him a couple hundred dollars worth of groceries, gas money and rent money. I wanted to pay him more but he said this is his way to give back to me and he will not have it anyother way. Thats what great friends do for eachother. This economy has brought freindships to higher level. Only good thing to come out of this.

By the way seatmaker do you know where I can get replacement suction cups for my passenger seat? I have torn a couple off and the seat is like new so I dont need to buy a new one.

I am heading over around 1200 today to start the tear down process. I am getting some shrink wrap to do all the connectors while I have it apart. Putting a new rear tire on also. I could not sleep last night. I am like a kid the night before christmas!!!!

My quote last week from a friend of a friend for a complete paint with flames was $2400. He did my friends for $1500 (in the same club). Is that a good price? Black layer, the silver for the flames, then a candy red final coat.

Hey Rhino, Does that include pinstriping the flames? $2400 is a decent price if it includes pinz. It might be a little high. Maybe if he did some cross-overs, and of course drop-shadows and pinz, then I could see $2400. If it is just a 1-dimensional flat flame job with no airbrushing or pinstripes, that's too high. For a job like that I would say $15-$1800 would be more fair. Just my 2 cents.

While I am tearing down my bike to get painted I decided to go ahead and do a complete service on my bike. Good thing I did. I found a bad rear wheel bearing going bad. I just changed them around 10,000 miles and I have 17,000 on my bike now. Also took my gas cap out of my tank to wet sand and Found my paint was starting to peel. took some tape and layed it out across the top of my tank and pulled it off several times and paint just kept coming off. Finally got all that off there and wet sanded the hell out of my tank. I will be doing my fork seals and bushings later this week. Hope I dont find anymore suprises. Other than that all is going well and I will be posting pics soon.

Good luck on your paint and airbrush. Ausome price as well. I just paid $2800.00 for my job. You said he was going to shade your iron crosses to give it depth. If you want depth, put a metalic under the cross.
