hydraulic primary chain tensioner

Today I removed the hydraulic cahin tensioner I had installed on my ridgeback. It seems that with no slack in the chain the torque compensator rattels loudly. I like the no slack but hate the noise!
 
Don't mean to jump your thread firedog but just a thought to see if anyone can answer it
Since they removed the compensator in 05s and up what prevents prior motors from having the compensator removed.
firedog what kind of wear do you have on the shoe?
I have just finished the mounting system for 04 and newer and will begin testing in a week or so.

I had to shave the shoe down thinner to get the proper preload of 1/16 inch. The wear pattern is even across the shoe but no material loss . I ran it for about 8000 miles. The noise is probably not harmful as I did not find any excessive metal on the plug or in the case its just annoying.
