How's yer skills?

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
They say chance favors the prepared... Blacktopper and I must be favored because all we have done all damn winter long is prepare...
Today was 70+ degrees, and although it was a bit windy, we were happy to get out. We went to northern OK and rode east into the beautiful southern MO Ozarks. Lots of sweepers and some twisty-turns too...trees still bare, but impossibly bright green winter wheat coming on strong...nice time of the year.
I felt a bit clumsy and found my usual confidence in cornering less reliable than usual. I mean after coming out of a curve, I say "How the Hell did I get over here?"
Usually when that happens, my tire pressure is low a few pounds, cause the Dog is a bit touchy about that. But today, I realized that I was just rusty. I slowed it down a bit and took it easy, and later in the day found that line thru the curves was working smooth again.
Point: If you haven't been riding and you're as old as I am, take it easy until you're used to the physics before you resume riding like you rode last fall.

I agree. These 70* days are great for short rides to get your bike and mind aligned again.

I just want to know what 70 feels like again. 46 here this morning and that looks like the high for today.

Amen !

And don't forget to practice your evasive maneuvers (such as emergency braking, swerving to the open line and avoiding fixation) before you need them. Had a car turn left in front of me last weekend - fixated for a split second and started to lockup a tire due to rustiness before coming to my senses and steering through the open line to avoid a collision - could have been bad if I hadn't caught myself.

I thought in the winter you guys just rode indoors on different courses or did flat track in that half mile long heated shop.

Glad to see Roger and you survived another winter. Good information to remind all of us that have to endure winter weather unlike our southern friends. Watch that sand that is still on the roads. Sand was my downfall a few years ago on my first ride of the new riding season. Enjoy the sunshine and the wind in your face.

Good story. I new to the 300 rear tire. Front was low when I got it much better now. How much air do you run in that 300?

Nice story Shannon. Any one who haven't had a close call will have one or more. Let's hope it is just a close call and another good story. My last one was with a skunk at 5am on my way to work. I missed it some how but there was fur on the foot rest of my Honda.
