How will in know if/when I need new shocks on my 2008 Roadking?

If they are the stock ones they are not so good right out of the gate. I have sold a number of Roadking owners the Progressive 412 series shocks and all are happy as can be. You can go up from there but the 412's seem to bhe the best bang for the buck. If you do a lot of 2 up riding go for the 412 HD's.

I really like my works shocks on my SG.
I will tell you that if you make a change in the back you are more than likely going to have to make adjustments to the front, too.
Especially if you go with progressive springs.
I had to go to a thicker front shock oil to get the front to respond more like the rear when I did my shocks. Before I did the front he front and back old oscillate and get me motion sick.

I have set up 5 RoadKings with the Progressive 412 rear shocks , of those one went with shorter front springs the others were stock length [13"] and after setting the proper sag not one of the others had any problems with the front end. The main thing is if you are in the 250 lb range or ride 2 up most of the time you should go with the 412 HD . I think you would be very happy with the ride compared to the stock shocks.

I also have an early 21/18 setup. It is one of the first through my dealer that handles correctly with very few bad habits......which is a very far cry from it nearly bucking me off doing over 60mph at first.
