How tough is the BDM tranny

I've already modified my 117ci engine about as much as I can without going ridulus exspensive, but I'm just not happy with the performance of it, so I weighed out the cost of getting more power out of my current motor and dicided that I could just pull it sell it and get me an El Burto 140ci for almost the same money as it would be to try and get my 117 up to a 165hp. My question is can the BDM transmission handle that much HP and torque. Also since the El Bruto is designed to handle the that much HP it should be more reliable than pushing my motor up to those kinds of numbers. I can purchase the 140ci for $5900 and it show polished and dimond cut and it is set up to pump out 165 hp. I even considered the Dux 200ci 200hp motor becuase they say it fit into any frame that will mount a stock evolution engine, but the price on that one was outragous. i think it started around 10 grand. I plan to do some more research on the El bruto engines becuase I was always taught if something seems to be to good to be true then it usually is. But back to my question can the the BDM tranny handle that kind of power. I apreciate your feed back.

Not a chance in hell that I would run a DSSC with a motor that big.:nono: The factory DSSC trans in the 05 up bigdog is weak in many ways and will not live long under that kind of power. Your best bet would be a baker torquebox:up:

Bobby is correct on both points...:2thumbs:
Baker said when they made the DSSC for Big Dog, they wanted a transmission that was quiet to handle around 100hp. I was told if you wanted to go to a high horsepower application you would be better removing the transmission mounting plate, install one for a Harley soft-tail transmission and put it in. I believe our 1st and 2nd gears are straight cut which can handle the power and 3rd on are helical gears which will separate under high torque conditions and basically implode.
I am sure someone can correct me if I am off base on the gear set type.

According to Baker tech support, the Dssc trans is rated at 165ft lb torque. When I recently rebuilt mine there were 3 straight cut and 3 helical cut. I asked my mechanic who has a good reputation whether I should replace that Dssc with a jims, trik shift,or ultima. He said no,no, and no. To keep what I have because those transmissions are Korean crap. Baker makes a great transmission bad get a bad rap for all the bearing failures. I noticed the bearing that I put in were different than the ones that came out. Baker has seen their fair share of bad bearings. The Harley trans holds up very well to the high torque motors. everything in that box is bigger where the Baker is much more compact. You know when you see a bagger with a pro charger on it cranking 200+hp and he is running the stock transmission and has never had a problem it's a good thing.
