How to: Kennel the Dog for 1 year while in Afghanistan

Hey all! Just got news I'll likely deploy to Afghan in mid-Aug for one year.

Wondering what you all recommend to prep the dog for long-term storage. I have a spot in the garage, but no lift.

Im going to send a grid coordinate and it will be taken care of... JK. Battery tender, drain the gas, take the plugs out and blow out the head, and cover it. Thats what I do every other six months while Im deployed and it seems to work out.

Salute to you for your service and keep the powder dry. Be for it is all over may be over there with you.

On storage, Battery Tender (recommend removing from BD and setting on a wood platform), drain the gas if will be a year before you get back to it, if like 6 month fill to 90% and put in some Stabil Fuel Stabilizer.

Would also recommend that you change the oil and filter before you leave (after you have road it for a little bit to get any condensation out of the oil). I also change out the tranny and primary. When you get back, change the oil again (even though it was new).

Inflate the tires up to spec.

Maybe give it a good washing before you do the storage bits.

I concur with all the above except draining the tank. I would follow BDM recommendations that are in the Owners Manual for long term storage.

As of the tank I personally would want something (liquid) in the tank and carb to keep the gaskets and seals moist. And I guess that mean gas with lots of Stabil or equivalant.

Just my thoughts.

Yell when you get over there if you need anything.

Actually on draining the tank, never had to do it myself and the more I think about, have to go with Raywood on this one. Best to keep it near topped and if for a long time, can always drain it when bringinf her out and clean the petcock before starting her up again.

just one thing to add really. If you can it might be better to get the wheels up off the ground but I know you don't have a lift so maybe you can't do that, unless you're really stong! look after yourself over there

Leave tank toped off with fuel stabilizer, prevents condensation, just drain it when you get back.

You should talk to my daughter. She has an 06 6.0 GTO and has done two deployments to Iraq. She prefers to let me watch her baby for her when she is gone. I am know for takeing great care (except the rear tires). So i would be glad to watch your dog for you while you serveing this great country!!!:flag::flag:

Thanks for the offer. I have an '07 Charger SRT8 w/ 6.1L Hemi 425HP. Would you watch her, too!

You have to put the new tires on her though!

Actually, my wife get's to watch them both. She'll probably drive my Charger but just wash/wax my K-9!
