I have searched through a bit and have not found the answer that I am looking for, so I thought I would post this up and see if I get what I am looking for.
I am needing some major help on tunning my Dog or setting or something because even after taking it to Strokers here in Dallas it is still coughing and sputtering. The Dog was stock when purchased and ran perfect, bu now have added the Martin Brothers Medustas -

which after adding these did not any riding difference other than it sounded bad ass. I have now added the Arlen Ness 90 degree velocity stack -

and since this went on it was sputtering and coughing. Strokers said that it just need to be rejetted. No prob, only $45 bucks. I picked it up yesterday and took off. Damn thing was doing the same thing it was when I took it in, so i went back and the service tech said that he put the jet that would best match my set-up but that did not have enough back pressure and needed to add some baffels in those pipes. I told him to look in the pipes because there was baffels, so sure enough he saw them, he's reply was that I probably needed better ones and probably needed to take the heades of and grind open the restricter plates. PROBABLY!

Dont these guys build bikes? Should I ask for my money back? Should I tell them they are not fixing the problem right and waht he said was wrong? I think they are the only BDM authorized service, so I wouldnt want to piss them off and then get shity service from here on out.

I need some good advice guys, and all your help would be much appreciated.

If you were to buy the BD pipes that everyone has they would come with a new jet kit. I think it's a 31/76 combo to replace your 29.5/74 I think the new ones come with.
In the tech section the S&S tuning instructions have been posted many times if you do a search for carb tuning.

Nice pipes,
Ray

My bike had similar issues in the beginning, I have V&H BR, and D&M breathers....I brought the bike back to the dealer with sputtering issues, and they told me there's nothing wrong ....I did research and called BD and D&M, and I was instructed to take out the bowl vent screw. Beleive it or not this fix the problem entirely...no more sputtering. It's a hex screw underneath the carb. Hope this helps...

first off make sure you have no intake or exhaust leaks - then have a look at the spark plugs to see if you're lean or rich - then change the jets yourself - plenty of guidance on here for that.
You may not be able to tune out popping and such on those pipes but if the bike is actually stuttering getting the jetting right should help.

Raywood, are you saying that when I picked up these pipes that were for BD, that they should have came with the jet kit?

I think Ray is saying the V&H Big Radius pipes supplied thru BD come with the rejetting kit.

Were exactly is the bowl vent screw. I have the same setup and on occasion get a cough or sneeze at highway speeds only. Do you drop the carb bowl to get to the hex screw. Pics would be nice

That's the way I understand it but then I've never bought pipes from BDM but they show the jets in the exhaust listing on their website.

Put your stock air cleaner assembly back on and see if it makes a difference. It's not your pipes.
Black Dawg, I had the pipes on for about a month before the intake and ther were no performance issues. I did have some curguling when let off the gas and maybe a hickup of smoke at first take off in the cool early morning but nothing like this with the new intake. It jerks and spurts on the freeway when I am cruzing and when I get on it it has a huge hesitation with caughing before I get a rush of power.

You guys here or great, I am so glad that I found this site.

I just looked at my invoice again and it states on there that they replaced the main jet with a .076 and left the other stock. Is this good enough? Should I just try and tuning my carb with the three screws on top?
Thanks.

Bowl Vent Location....

Next, all suggesstions are GOOD...I would start with - Bowl Vent, Exhaust leaks and reading the plugs.

At what point does the bike sputter around 2500+ RPM indicates you need a larger "MAIN JET" at lower RPM's the plugs will tell....

ALSO READ THIS DOCUMENT....http://www.sscycle.com/files/7913/7..._g_series_shorty_carburetors_installation.pdf

Finally if all fails - Black Dawg may be on to something.....

Yep, after I changed my air intake to the S&S dual setup from Nelson, I had to remove the set screw as well. The dog sputtered at first, but once the screw was gone, she runs great.

First off $45 would have bought you the entire high range jet kit for your super G.

Second, I disagree with the the cough at 2500 being the main jet. A typical scenario... highway speed 75mph +/- RPMs at about 2750... cough thru the carb... go up on int. jet.

But my $0.02

Oh and to jet the carb... click these links for sniplets out of the how to

Absolutely. Your intermediate jet is woefully lean even with the stock pipes/air cleaner. Add pipes and you'll get some sneezing thru the carb. Try a .031. I had to go all the way to a .033 after I added the cam.

Hey Frizzle, did you set you carbs screws like it was shown in one of the other threads, to turn all in and then back them out? Or did you just remove the bottom hex screw?
