I bought my 06 K9 because I wanted it. Not because of what the market might do. Same as, truthfully, I could give a flying you-know-what what anyone else thinks of it. I knew what I wanted and I went for it. If BDM goes out of business and my baby struggles with a worth-price similar to a Briggs & Stratton, well...to hell with it. Mine still looks better and goes one HELL of alot faster.

FREEDOM!!!
I personally don't care about "resale value" at all. I'm keeping all of my toys until I die and enjoying the living crap out of them. End of story.

[ When they laid off down to 30 people Tuesday thats not a good sign n my books !!]

Where did you see this info? The last count I had on pay-rolled employees was 33. So if they cut another 30...

Okay my 2 cents you buy a bigdog MC you get an unreliable, and ever trouble some motorcycle. It was the worst investment I ever made financially with all the upgrades. But would I do it again, you bet !! hands down the ride is the shit!!! I say go ahead but be careful with what you pay like some of the other members stated "It's a buyers market"

Resale on all customs blows, that's life right now. I wouldn't buy new, that's throwing money in the toilet, and what's it getting you? A warranty that you have to hunt around for dealers and the dealers can't get the parts anyway, that's if they have a competent mechanic back there. Buy a used bike, and use the vast knowledge on this site to learn how to service it yourself. Parts will always be available, and when they really aren't, there will always be an alternative. If you want a custom bike, Big Dog is really the only option unless you're gonna build it yourself.

Maybe they are out riding and enjoying their decreasing value Big Dog and not worry about how much they coudl sell it for, but more how many good times it brings them.

I have to say to the original question. If you like the Dog and it is the bike for you in regards to ride enjoyment and something that you can see many miles, smiles and road trips on, then go for it. If it is something that you plan to shine a few times, run to the local Poker run and more important to have something that you have to worry about how much you can get out of it a year or two down the road, best to find something else.

Only lost of value if you plan to sell it anytime soon or do not plan to get as much fun and time out of it as possible. Mine is going on 5 years old and it may nor be worth shit if I sold it, but it is priceless to me for the good times I have on it, be it sharing roads with many of the member on here or other riders, or going solo and just enjoying this great country.

It is broken down right now and though it is just a matter of having the time to fix it, no complaints for even tearing it down and hunting the trouble has brought me enjoyment and overall it has been very good to me. I am sure that if I went out and paid full price for a new 2010 and the company went under an hour after I bought it, I would still not regret my pruchase and would get so much value out if it with the smiles than any money could ever replace.

Good luck and much success in what every you get be it a BD, A M/V Augusta, A HD, GirlyWing or a classic Vespa. Hitting the road on two wheels is something that many of us know, the value of such is priceless! With that said, I am going to get on my Buell and go to work and enjoy the 120 mile commute each way!! Hopefully next week I will do the same on the Big Dog and if not the week after!!!!!

I asked myself the same questions when I was going to buy the 2010 Bulldog Bagger. In the end, with a price tag so high on that puppy and the uncertainty of the company, I opted for the "buyers market" of BDM's that were available. I picked up a new 2008 Pitbull for almost half of the 2010 Bulldog. With the lower price, the wife felt much better about getting another bike. Now I have my Dog and am not lookin back. Good luck with you decision.

Oh and I will have to agree that some of those replies were a little harsh. :loony:

In July of '07 I spent 3 weeks in the hospital. Almost died a couple of times. Spent 3 weeks at home recovering before I could go back to work. Had a lot of weak and down times for the next few months:roll:. In May '08 we bought the new Mastiff:). Since then I've been in and out of the hospital numerous times, and many times I was so weak I couldn't get it off the stand. However, I was able to polish, rub, and dream of the good days to come:D. I have sold two Harleys to be able to keep the dog. Is it worth what I paid for it back in '08? Hell no, it's worth 10 TIMES MORE:2thumbs:. Every time I ride it's priceless. To answer the original question how much of a hit should you take? What's it worth to you? In 40 years of riding I've never had a motorcycle that I enjoyed more. I love my Dog!!!

I went through the same thing. I have twin boys in college and I wanted to own a new mastiff. After about a year of searching and thinking about it I found a used mutt with 450 miles and 1-1/2 years left on the warranty in the color I wanted with all of the upgrades I wanted already done. It was the best move I have ever made. Let someone else take the hit and look for a perfect used one. There are plenty of them out there. Do not be in a hurry and your day will come. The first ride is worth the wait. Go for it!

get the best of both worlds... go buy someone's used bike that is in good shape, take advantage of the depreciation they are paying for and you still get the thrill of riding one of the best custom's available.

This is my opinion also...i have seen plenty over time with little to absolutely no mileage on them at all.....

I agree with other, I love my K9 and have enjoyed the hell out of it. I hope BigDog makes it, but if they don't I will find a way to continue getting parts and fixing it myself, like always. If I ever sell, if someone likes it enough they will pay a fair price.
