65 now, retired March 6th, just starting to get used to being retired, not getting up at 11:30 at night to go to work . Still have the 2004 Ridgeback, that stays covered up most of the time. My wife wants me to sell it too. I almost did last year, but after I changed the gas cap/ and the insert last year, it still would crank up and run great until "Yesterday"! I avoid rain, and traffic when I do get a chance to ride, back roads out in the country where I was raised. Yesterday I was on my way home about 30 miles from home out in the country doing 35 ~ 40 mph, putting along , when it sounded weird, and I noticed the lights on the speedometer where acting up. Then they came back on for a few seconds and went back out, I could tell it had quit pulling so I rolled off the side of the road. Nothing on the lights at first but after I sat there a few minutes turned it back on with the key, the lights came back up and it fired up, it just stayed running a few seconds and quit again. It would start and it would quit again shortly afterwards. After sitting on the side of the road 30 ~ 40 minutes I had done called my daughter to bring the trailer and straps to get it home. I ended up pushing it, flat , level , good road about 200 yards to get in a safer, better place to load it, and a shady place. I tried it again, start great and quit again, just shut down. Finally after 20 ~ 30 minutes waiting I tried it again and it seemed like it was going to run, so I eased off and made it about a half mile past where I was originally, rolled it to safe place to get it loaded, and a better palce to get it loaded too. My daughter showed up, pulled into a down hill driveway going into a feild. Some guy stopped and helped us get it pushed up on the trailer. We strapped it down tight, and brought it home, where it is still on the trailer strapped down, covered up, with my truck hooked up to the trailer. And I am up in the middle of the night wondering what the next step is ? I replaced the EHC soon after I got it years ago, I was about 60 miles from home then, it just quit!, no nothing afterwards. After the sun comes up, 4:00 now, I am going to see if the red light come on when I turn the key on and go from there, check grounds, etc . Sorry , I hogged this thread up to babble all this, but while it is quite here early in the morning, this is what is keeping me awake, while I got it fresh on my old 65 years old brain! :)

is the ignition module in the cone -- if so they eventually over heat and fail, then work shortyl after they cool off.
If it starts like normal when you test it, hit it lightly in the nose cone with a hair dryer/heat gun -- if it dies it might be that ignition module.
DO NOT overdo the heat or you will KILL the ignition module and have 2 problems to find.

Headed that way shortly, Thank you Sir! It made me smile this AM when I saw you were i n the 100K mile club. My Ridgeback just turned over 19,000, :) And I saw where I had commented in this same post when I was 55 years old. Maybe I am getting old . This motorcycle runs so good I hate to get rid of it, and I have had it for a long time too. Now I have time to ride too, and had to trailer it home yesterday about dark. I had a major surgery last December that took me 4 months to recover from, I retired the day they said it was ok to go back work. March 6th. It felt so good to get out again on those country roads, even by myself it felt wonderful. Not is a rush anymore all the time does feel good.

You may want to start a new thread relative to your issue so more people will see it and provide input.
Make sure your battery has clean and tight connections. A load test may be a good idea also especially if it's old. If the battery and connections are good start with troubleshooting the ignition parts.

I went out, put the key in it, turned to on position. The little light on the EHC came on and went back off. I think that is what it is supposed to do, until it is running. The speedometer hand went up and fell back, the lights, neutral light came on and stayed on like normal. It did not seem to want to crank at all. The battery is almost new, terminals are clean, It don't get wet and stays covered up. I have noticed I have to hit the Start button sometimes more than once , sometimes three times before it will crank up. When it fires up it runs like a champ, like I rode it yesterday. And going to start a thread in the correct place, kind of copy and paste. Thank you, greatly appreciated Mike.
