I live in Tennessee and bought my bike out of Oklahoma, and drove to get it. Trust me, although I got to see the bike when I got there, I had the same feelings as you. There was no way in hell I was going to drive 700 miles ONE WAY without being sure it was 100%. I drilled the hell out of the owner, and got tons of pics of the bike. In the end there was no surprises. I only drove to get it b/c it was such a good deal and I couldn't find a good rate on a shipping company. Also you gotta watch those shipping companies, most of them will just piggy back your bike on the back of a moving van to fill up space, and sometimes it's a month before you get it.

I don't have the info, but there's also like private inspection companies that will inspect products like this that you plan on having shipped.

I bought mine from a dealer 400 miles away. I never saw the bike in person until the Sunday they delivered it. I based my purchase on many pictures and three phone calls with many questions. It was the color I wanted with the options I wanted. They dropped if off and took my old bike as a trade. It looked better in person then in the pictures and I never looked back. One year and 6000 miles later I could not be happier.

I ordered mine in Jan '04, got it in July. Little different scenario, I know.

However, I have bought & sold vehicles sight unseen. I bought a car off of ebay, & have sold a couple on ebay. All of which were sight unseen.

I flew from Pittsburgh to Minneapolis to look at mine before I bought it. I took a bank check with me to pay for it and have the title in hand before I had the bike shipped by truck home. I came home with the a notary bill of sale and the title. Had to have the title changed to my name in Pa. and pay sales tax of 6%

live in pa. bought bike in san diego calf. used Daily Direct out of Milwakee, Wisconsin. I had a wonderful experience. But if I tried it again, it would probably be a disaster.

Same for me. Saw pix and made a few calls, but didn't see it until I showed up in Wichita. It was close enough I took a day and brought it back on a U-Haul bike trailer. I took a bank check and came back with all the paperwork to re-title in TX. Real happy with the bike.

Live in NY and bought it sight unseen in NJ. Never rode on one either. One of the best and exciting ways to do it!

Insert title here...
Back in '03 I took a blank bank check and flew from Cleveland to Omaha to buy a Durango then drove it home. Two years ago I bought a K-9 from a wholesaler in Phoenix, had it inspected by a Big Dog dealer in Mesa, then had it shipped to me back in Cleveland. I plan on doing it all again when I find the Charger I want.

However, I'm not sure I would buy from a private party without seeing it first or at least having someone I know check it out for me...

When i Bought mine I found it on line after about a twenty minute search, (to long of a story for here what led to the search) After about 8 phone calls to the dealer and his staff I decided to go look at it. This trip shouldnt really count. I didnt know anything about a big dog at the time. Looked it over and test road it a couple of blocks. Still didnt know much about it, Other than I really wanted this bike. Couldnt get the deal to work on the numbers.
I left. Made something like 5 more calls. The dealer finally got the numbers down to were it was acceptable on my end.. but I was still Uneasy ..... about 3 hours later my lady comes in the house and says her, her aunt, cousins and here daughters are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks. I said cool I just bought a bike. Made the phone call the next morning and went and got it the following tuesday.
Yes i Saw the Bike but didnt really know what I was looking at. Didnt know anything about the little quircks or the High Maintence (LOVE) that is Demanded from my bike... I would do it over again. It has been probably one of the best decisions I have Ever made when it comes to Enjoyment... Without a doubt seen or unseen I would do it again.
