How many miles

Guys I'm having trouble. How many miles on your bikes before you had to do any top end work? Valve guides, rings, maybe .005 bore and pistons. That sort of thing? I'm getting mixed stories.:bang::bang::bang:

too many variables...how hard you ride....how it was built nobody will give you answer

I'm sure someone has had it happen with <500 miles on a bike and then we have members that have 90k on the original engine.

No worries

Look I'm not trying to pin anyone's ears back, just trying to get a feel if it might be fairly reasonable for a person to have to do some top end work, in general, after roughly 24 thousand miles.... Ok? 2005 Chopper DTV, built by BDMC.
Thanks

do you have S&S or TP rocker boxes? the TP seems to be one of the bigger determining factors as far as anything related to the valves. rings is a different story. as far as a .005 bore to clean up the cylinders, should be able to go with a .005 oversized ring and not change the piston if all the other inerds are OK. (or at least that is my opinion, but then again, i have been wrong before)

I think Raywood did a top end on his 05 a few years ago at 45K because he heard a noise. It later turned out that the noise had nothing to do with the motor. So at least 45K with maintenance.

Thanks All

After further investigation, yes I do have the TP rocker boxes and rocker arms which I now have learned caused the problems. I had a nice long talk with S&S as well which was very helpful. So to make long story shorter I do need to change out the TP gear and rebuild valve guides to remedy problems and to prevent from recurring in near future.

Thanks again

I bought mine with 750 miles on it when it was three years old. I had scored cylinders and worn out valve guides. I can only guess the original owner rode the hell out of it without breaking it in or played with the odometer.

It was a good reason to get rid of the EPA shit on the bike....

I had about 12k on my 05 that also had the tp boxes and the smaller valves. Rear exhaust valve guide was about to give up. I went all S&S top end with larger valves. My read jug was starting to oval out so I had the jugs bored .010 over with new pistons and rings. Some on here have had no problem with high miles with TP tops, like Raywood. I caught my just in time.

Thanks Guys

I'm on the verge of breaking down bike myself, jus a ill nervous about it seeing how I'm not a mechanic . But as the Gasman says "why pay someone else to f&@k up your bike" I've also read Rays "how to" which made me feel a lot better. As this progresses I'll let you all know

Thanks & now would be a good time to pray
