Thors, I would first try to adjust the clutch and check your fluids. The gears are not normaly worn...99% of the rebuilds I do all stem from the bearings wearing out due to the side load force put on them by the helical cut gears. The gears are of good quality and have to either be run dry, or have metal from one of the bearings,forks,etc to have excessive wear on them.
If you still have slippage after the adjustment then dig further. Take off the primary cover and pull the clutches,steels, and clutch carrier out. Check for any burned clutches, warped steels, or damage to the clutch carrier. If that looks good then loosen the drive belt and check the input shaft on the trans for any movement. If it moves then the trans has bad bearings and will need a rebuild.
