How Long is to Long

Took my K9 to the only dealer in Arkansas on Feb.2 A two hour drive. Had them do the 5000 mile service, recall stuff, and speedometer issue. Called every week to check progress. First week and a half, bike just set there. I knew it would take a couple of weeks to get to it. Weather was lousy and my warranty expires April 1, 2008 no big deal. Week 3 they got the service done and the wrench (Eddy..nice guy) said the recalls were done and he noticed the warranty expired soon, so he really went over the bike. Done the Service Bullet. stuff and also noted and fixed the broken bracket on my V&H pipes (this seems to be a common problem). And replaced the the LED lights on my tag bracket, a couple had gone out. He told me he called BD and that they did not want to replace the speedometer because they had replaced one already. They were going to send a new mounting bracket for the speedometer. Been over 2 weeks and BD has not sent anything. He called and BD said they were backordered. I told him the weather was getting great (been in the 70's) and I wanted to ride. Ask him how long the backorder was going to last. Told him I would just come and get it and when the bracket comes in I'll come back. My question is....How long is long enough. Is this a common problem? Am I just being impatent? Thanks guys....I feel better now.

Not sure how long is too long, but it does seem that with exception of waiting for the bracket, overall it has taken you longer than my dealer normally does. Still not too bad, but on the speedometer bracket, I would take the bike, make sure it is well documented that the bracket has not been replaced and then go ride.

Once they get the bracket in, replace it and go on your way. If for some reasons the speedometer breaks before the bracket is fixed, make them change it also and take no crap about it if they say no. There is no reason that you should have to wait for them to get their supply chain fixed while your bike is sitting there gathering dust and possibly paying interest and making payments.

I mean after all it is not like BD has not been dealing with speedometer since at least 2005, much the same as EHC and other type issues.

Mine typically takes two to three weeks to get in and is in for more than a week. Going on week 2 at this point. My feeling is I should not have to contact them to get a status on my bike. I mean after all I have spent a ton of money there at least you would think they could pick up the phone and say “We’re held up, or we haven’t got to it.” A few local people have stated that they promised that work had been done on the bikes they bought there, only to find out later that it had not. Sounds typical to me.

:hi: lucky, maybe. i've never had to leave mine. i've been able to wait for the work to be done, albeit sometimes it has been 5-6 hours. cannot really complain
compared to some of ya'll. as far as the speedo bracket, mine ended up being on back-order 4-5 weeks. patience? might as well.:2thumbs:

JaiLer,

First welcome to the site and second is that a Fender Tele there in the sig? I assume that you are another guitar player as well as BD rider.

Nice looking Tele regardless if it Fender or one of the many similar ones.

Welcome again,

Sorry for the Jack

Ok, I have to take back my comments about the dealer not calling me. 10 minutes after I posted this they called and apologized and gave me a status on my scooter. It’s not going to be ready for this weekend’s ride, but they are checking to see if they have something I can ride as a loaner.

Yes Fibersnake it is a American Tele. Vintage PU's and custome setup by a guy named larry in MT. He does great work!

I call the dealer so they can order ahead and do most of it myself unless it is mandatory by BDM who BTW is frequently out of parts and claim they are backordered. I am still waiting (21 days) on a grommet that was missing from my replaced side covers. Also waiting on strut bolts which were part of a recall. Speedo is also bad but I will remove it myself and deliver it to the dealer which works for the both of us (bike stays with me, saves them storage space). The world of customs is laid back from parts to service from my experience (no sense of urgency). Hope this changes!

I also usually call ahead and make sure that everything is ordered and ready .... but still have seen it sit for 5 days when it should have been a few hours.

I go to Thundercylces in OKC where I bought my bike. I make an appointment, go in in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon. Works out great. Lola is always thrilled after a day at the BDM Spa.

JAILeR, do you suppose your dealer was reading what you posted and called you?

Last week I called my dealer and told em I needed a svc, needed the recalls done, adding something and could they call me when all the items are ready. They called back this tuesday and we again confirmed this friday. Got another confirmation yesterday about my appointment, and everything is OK. The best part is the appt is for 11am, so I get to only spend 3 hours in heavy seattle/everett traffic pulling my trlr. I get to avoid the 5 hours commuter traffic. Of course, this puts me heading south on a friday night in seriously heavy traffic in heavy rain.
P8RIOT, you gonna be home? :D

Dealer called me today and said the new speedometer and bracket came in today. Didn't think BD was going to send a new speedometer, but they did. Told it might be ready tommorrow. We'll see, gotta work anyway.
