It was suggested by Alhall and I liked it so much that I went and did it myself. Dielectric grease and shrink wrap wll the big dog harnesses on the back bone and under the seat.
What you'll need is about twelve 2" strips of 3/8" shrink wrap and four 2" strips of 3/4". There is 11 on the back bone and 4-5 under the seat.
And a small tube or packet of the di-electric grease.
Some electrical tape & some larger zip ties.
Oh and the wife's blower dryer or a heat gun. Can also use a candle lighter if you want.
The hardest part pulling the tank. In this I enlisted my favorite helper... the wife. (she'll kill me for that pic... she'd been doing yard work and laying out earlier... all sweaty and no make up... oh well the hat makes up for it!)
First I pulled the seat and the sides using the 7/16th socket. To gain access to the four or five wires on the right side. Granted mine may look a bit different but that's primarly due to the Scorpion Alarm.
Now make sure you also di-connect the battery so there is no arching during this process!!!!
Then remove the four 7/16th bolts on the bottom of the tank and the gas line off the tank. You should find this...
Cut the old zip ties
Doing one wire at a time so you don't screw anything up.
This is almost "blinker cover easy" but un-hook the harness
Little dielectric grease
Slide on the shrink wrap before re-attaching the wires.
Snap the harness back together and slide the shrink into place
Heat it up
And tape the ends closed for that added protection
Start to re-zip tie everything back into place.
Put some loctite on your tank bolts and slide the tank back on and bolt it and your under seat sides back into place. Check all the lights, blinkers, hi beam, low beam, tail lights, tag lights, and then of coarse start it to make sure all is well.
Job well done, great suggestion by Al, and a piece of mind if we ever get caught in the rain.
