Horn isn't working!

I was never much on that Beep-Beep horn but since I installed the wire plus a while back it hasn't worked at all. Before I finish up the licience plate holder lights and a few other things I wanted to check the horn issue out. I am not a wireing guru at all. I thought maybe the horn was dead until yesterday I removed it and put a couple wires on it and touched the battery. Imagine this,,,, 6" of wire,,, sitting on the stool and the horn about a foot from my face when I touched the battery(expecting it not to work really). I almost gave me and the dog a heart attack and blew my ear drums out. I couldn't get the wires off the batery fast enough!
The wiring on the wire plus is correct. ( switch on!)I unpluged the # 3 plug and touched the wire on the horn to the connector in the plug, other to the ground, with the switch pushed in,,, nothing. I touched the one next to it and it liked to blew my ear drums out again. So I don't think I am getting power from the switch itself. Everything else on that side works,, I just don't have a horn. I am fixing to go look at the button on the handlebars..

Hopefully it is something simple, like the light on the licience plate,

If it was working before the switch, don't tear your handlebars apart. Probably something down by the wire plus installation. Just a thought.

This is what I did following the instructions I had at the time.

Here you can do one of two things. The Horn connection can be just hooked to the gray wire that was coming directly out of the EHC. Or make a new little power and ground harness to run directly to the horn. Crimp the terminal on a piece of wire long enough to reach the horn, and snap it Into Plug #3 Pos. #3. This wire needs a ground ran with it to the horn. The ground will be connected with the 15 other grounds that were left in the harness when complete.

Otherwise, just clip BDM Grey wire pin #A21 and plug it into Plug #3 Pos. #3.

I have got all the instructions plug 3, postion 3,, had a new wire in the wire plus and grounded too,,, but I can tell you that weiny beep beep horn is loud about a foot from your face,,I didn't get to the handlebars,,had to go get my grand daughters,,,they are spending the night tonight,,, priority,, sponge bob on possibly every tv in the house,,, cheese sticks, popcorn, and yoo hoos, whatever they need!

I'll get back on this tommorrow after work hopefully,,

Thank you,, but the power to the horn is screwed up somewhere.

I know the horn works,, hold it between your knees touching the battery posts with ear plugs,, not quite as loud but will still scare the crap out of you,, like a jacked up vibrator going beep !!!!!!!!

The wire plus is wired up correctly.
I tried to do a continuity test( my grand daughter knows more about that meter than I do :loony. Touched the leads and it works ,,, touched the wire plug 3 position 3, the black lead to the ground,, and/or to the negative side of battery,,, nothing!

I have tremendous patience but the reality is I don't know a lot about wireing , tests, etc. I was reluctant to even attempt messing with it. I have thought about now a lot. It is starting to tick me off,, this should not be this hard to get a weiny little horn to work as I push the button. I have noticed when pushing the buttons on that side they seem a little stiff, you have to push em kinda hard. It is a 2004 and before I got it it had set out in the weather a few months ,, lots of rain too. It might be cruuded up it he handlebars switch. Electrical cleaner maybe?

The horn itself works but did it work on the bike before the WP?

The wire plus is wired up correctly.

If the horn worked before the WP and doesn't now you really can't say that...

Not quite getting where you're headed with this Ray. Pin 3 of plug 3 should be power (12V - gray) when you push the horn button. The horn itself should have a black wire going directly to ground. So, rather than continuity I would set your meter on DC volts, put the red lead on the gray wire at the horn, the black lead on ground then push the horn button (with the bike ON) and see what you get (should be 12VDC).

I have noticed when pushing the buttons on that side they seem a little stiff...

If your horn worked before the WP your problem isn't in your handlebar controls so I'd stay away from that... for now!

PS If you want to check your handlebar switch without tearing anything apart... disconnect plug 2 of the WP. Set your meter to continuity. Put one lead on a good ground with the other touching pin 11 of the connector and press your horn button, you'll get continuity if all is well.

Good thread, but nothing solved.

I went to get my inspection yesterday and was told the horn didn't work. Like all of you, I don't use the damn thing!

So, I checked the wiring, all looks good, tested the wiring with button pushed, 12 volts running thru it, no sound. Pull off horn and tried the "Ray" test, and I will attest, it's pretty dang loud in front of your face!! So where's the hiccup? I hear a click when I push the horn button. The battery is new, so power is not an issue. ???
