High Humidity

I heard that living by the coast with the salt air can do a number on your chrome. Could the high humidity they have cause a stock EHC to go bad?

hmmm interesting. The reason I asked is my Big Dog sat in the garage pretty much all summer without starting it due to medical reasons. Didn't try to start it for maybe 4 months. Always gave me no trouble other wise. But just a few days ago I thought it would be wise to run it. Well everything works as it should when starting except press the start nothing. No click.....no dimming of the headlight. The EHC has a green light on when turning on the key. Then when I press the start button a red light comes on. Not sure if any other lights are on. Cant remember. I figured even if the battery is low I should notice a dimmer headlight when the start button is pushed. I checked the basics. Not sure what to do next.

Short story. Guy restores an old honda 750. The bike has this remote black box that is inline with the ign points. The bike had no spark. Home he had an idea so he dipped the connectors in vinegar. The bubbles began eating the green fog farkle off the connector pins. When the bubbles stopped, coke was poured on the connector to neutralize the vinny, then a douche with fresh water and blow dry. Fukhere started right up. So if you have nothing to lose but stink finger for a few hours messing with vinny, you dip the connector in a cut down plastic drinking bottle, where it's cut tall enough to submerge the connector in the vinegar. Pour the vinny down the sink and kill the odor/clean the pipes some.

An example would be the winter time when say the dryer is heating up the garage air, add the wet clothes, and now we have an enclosed high humidity environment that kicks in with the ocean breeze freshener towelette you threw in and can smell it in the garage, yes? The chrome's porosity is the perfect pathway to have the fog you can't see, but say we dew live in that fog being so thin we can't see it. That's the water in the air resting on the chrome. So home he here would rag up some ATF and wipe the bike down for the winter months. Then lather up again each month because the shit evaps. Home he also drains the gas out of the tank and pours ATF and sloshes what's left in the tank to mix and thin the oil so it covers ceiling of the tank easier. Home he here at home does not let the air gap vs. condensation equals rust deposits to happen. So chrome is clean, tank is clean with ATF = Another Trick Found.

Only difference I would do is clean with alcohol after neutralizing the acid. Then di-electric grease.

UPDATE.....Well I tried everything I know to get this to run. I even tried another EHC I bought awhile back as a spare. Same issue. So after searching the forum I got some other ideas to try. Found out I had no power going to the green starter wire. Some mentioned a ground wire. So took a jumper wire and went from the negative battery post to another spot on the frame. That was it! So either the ground wire is bad or the battery ground is bad. The negative battery post kind of melted somewhat when the negative cable came loose somewhat. So there you go.

... how do you 'upgrade' your ground wires..??
I did a search......... nothing
From what I was told the original ground wire was drilled out to fit on the starter bolt and the wire itself is on the small side, I’ve never had any problems but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a problem, I assume the problem of melting occurs when the battery terminal is loose

... or of sufficient size. Thanks

The information may have been lost when the website was upgraded.

From what I remember, I purchased a new thicker ground wire and removed the original ground wire. I'm not saying the original wasn't good enough. But the thread mentioned other ground wires with higher quality wires and crimped ends. So, I bought one and installed it and never thought about it again. It has a transparent outer sleeve. See picture below. Damn, I'm going to have to get the girlfriend to clean the hard to reach areas of my bike!
