Help!!!

Energy One
Howdy friends! Well after 6 yrs of pretty much trouble free riding I have a problem. Rode 70 miles yesterday, came in last night and hooked up battery tender as always. Went out to ride this afternoon, turned on switch and without trying to start my K-9, starter makes one hellava chattering sound, oil, high beam, and neutral lights flicker along with chatter noise. Removed 3yr old Deka battery, checked volts, reads 12.8. Looked around and noticed some of the rubber insulation crumbling where it connects to the starter. Ya'll have any ideas on whats goin on? Thanks, SL

You can get what appears to be good voltage and the battery is still bad.
All your symptoms indicate a bad battery or loose or dirty connections that need to be addressed.
Check all your main starter battery connections and make sure they are clean and tight and then take your battery down and have it load tested.

You can get a new starter motor lead grommet and boot here

Thank you for your help. Battery tested ok, re-installed and cleaned each connecter and battery posts with a dremel tool. Problem solved! Man, that had me worried. Thanks again !! SL

I wouldn't trust that 3 yr. old battery much longer. You may get stranded before long. For me two years and out she goes, but that is me :D

Sounds like the same problem last week I had when the bike actually tried to start with only the key switch turned on. The problem seems to go away but curtis said the there is probably a short in the wireing. He said to pull the tank and check all the wireing and put dielectric grease in all the connectors. Hope this helps.:flag::cheers:
