So it turns over but no fire to the plugs? How about power to the coils? If the top end was done all of these wires could have been disturbed.

Drunkinly yours, V

Give up some more info! :2thumbs:

Sorry to hear about the troubles.
04 was nutorious for bad EHC ( as well as many other years ) It sounds like an eletrical problem. Could also be the ignition .The Bam sound has me concerned.Do you have spark at the plugs ?Many members update their EHC. put a want to buy in the swap meet forum. And check E bay too. After the top end I'd hate to see you have to wire the bike, but it might not be a bad Idea.$$$$$$ :(
Keep us up to date.

Try wiggling around the main power harness. It may not be making a solid connection. When you turn the key and hit the RUN button on the handlebars the ignition light should come on. If the light does not come on wiggle the main power harness around to see if you can get it to light up. If that ignition light is not coming on then you will not get power to the ignition module and you won't see any spark.

Let's start there.:2thumbs:

I'll be the devils advocate here...... But how does a top-end cost you $2000? I did mine for about $300 bucks

i have 12.78 v.. the light on the ehc is on the 2nd from the left only
If you mean the yellow light that would be telling you there's open somewhere in the power up circuit. If that's the case the WP isn't going to help.

But hopefully I'm wrong (sure wouldn't be the first time) and the WP cures the problem!! Good luck!!

Hi Kev,
I had quite a similar issue a few days ago.
Some support from Croatia:
1. I would be very careful to use a jump cable to start the engine (this might fire up your entire EHC or other electical parts and connectors (happend to me with another bike).
2. take the plugs out and place them next to your cylinder in order to have them grounded and start the engine. You can see if there are sparks between the two electrodes (Not sure if my english will be understood???)
3. if nothing visible, take off the seat and you will find two big plugs, secured with a small screw on each side. Open them and unplug them. Mostlikely you will find inside a lot of corrosion (looks a bit like greenish salt due to the copper pins). Spray them with contact spray (do not use WD40) and wait, then clean brush them with an old toothbrush. Repeat several times this procedure and then use Graphite Spray (make sure you use some cardboard around the male and female plug in order to protect your bike from the spray). Then assamble everything back together and fully recharge the battery over night. Next day the bike should start like new.
maybe it helped, if not maybe someone else might read this who has similar problems.

Stay safe and best regards from Croatia.

Never jumpstart a Bigdog with the other vehicle engine running.

Geeeze....Graphite spray in the EHC pin connections! Isn't GRAPHITE a carbon and doesn't carbon conduct electricity? YES. Not recommended!

Those pins are GOLD flashed plated over a machined brass contact from Positronic.

FIRST THING TO DO IS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY (+) WIRES BEFORE UNPLUGGING THE EHC HARNESS CONNECTORS...

Clean the EHC Harness connections with a spray contact cleaner/lube from Radio Shack or other electronics store. Cover all painted surfaces when using the spray. Be extremely gentle if you use a brush or you'll bend pins. Then partially fill the Male side (pin side) EHC connector with electronic dielectric grease from an automotive store and reassemble to EHC module.

:iagree: With one exception, disconnect the battery (-) first, not the (+)! :2thumbs:

If your Power EHC Fault Light (YELLOW) is on you have an open circuit. Upgrading to a wire plus may or may not fix your problem.
I've heard that before, might be something to it? :hi:

As in the EHC is not seeing enough of an electrical load. Since you don't have any power, lights, etc. that would be the problem. Have you disconnected the EHC connector as suggested? What else was taken apart when you did the the top end? I'd also look there...
#2 could the comp relief be it
Nope. They don't energize until you press the START switch. Your problem happens before that.
#3 i really cant stand elec. problems
The more you know the less intimidating they are! :hi:
