Hello....new to the forum, also new to the big dog. My question.....would like to buy a dog, either a 07 Pitbull or an 06 Mastiff. The Bull has 1800 miles, asking $16000, and the Mastiff has 1400 miles, asking $14000. What would be a better ride and why? Which one would you look more seriously at, and why. Both bikes look good, what should I be concerned with
Thanks for the info...

Depends what ya like. The Pit is a hardtail and the Mastiff isn't. Ride em both if ya have the chance and see which one suits ya......:zz2cents:

Yes the Pit is a hard tail the Mastiff has shocks- Just like Harry said
Both bikes are great and look very simular.
The prices seem about right for the current market.
I'm looking into flipping a 02 Pitbull with 10,000 miles probably going to be asking about $5 K for it. I'll list in swap meet if it works out.

1)If you plan on riding a passenger (wife or girlfriend) they will be complaing about the rough ride with a hard tail.

2) you need to consider the road conditions in your area .... a hard tail will give you a beating if your roads are tore up

just saying and I love hardtails:up:

I don't get beat up too bad at all w/ my hardtail Pitbull.
On the other hand, the wife sittin' on the back ...well, she takes a pretty good beating.

As 05 stated the TP's have 4 bolts on top like this

Not that the TP's are deal breakers....its just that if I seen 2 bikes I liked and everything being the same. I would pick the one with S&S rocker boxes.

not enough time 4 riding
Are you able to see the service histories on the bikes?

I have a 2006 Mastiff for which I received some recall letters. Some 2005 and 2006 models had bad voltage regulators. Some 2005 - 2008 models needed to have the rear fender strut bolts replaced. There was also a service bulletin for the speedometer and mount.

For the rocker boxes, check the number of bolts. 4 bolts are TP, 6 bolts are S&S.

My wife won't even ride with me on my ridgeback. If you hit a bump just right it will beat you up, dentures rattle, chatter or fall out, rear end and back get knumb, something to think about,, I am pretty good at dodging holes and bumps but sometimes you think you eyes might get lost if they fall out from the jar at 80 mph on the interstate.

Has a few other have already pointed out, both are close to be same style Pro-Street. The Mastiff is the soft tail and having an 05 Mastiff, I have enjooyed the ride with not problems over many many miles inlcuding a 700+ on day jaunt. Never a problem.

Do check the Rocker Boxes, if the TP are there, some have had issue but many other have not. I still ahve the TP Rocker Box on mine (thought the valeve train were changed over to S&S but the box are still TP.

Not sure but I think even Raywood amy still have the TP boxes and he is close at 90,000 miles on his 05.

As my good friend TooManyBikes points out, try to get history, ask for the VIN and you may still be able to get some history on it. The VR on some were changed, the strut bolts and maybe a couple of other, many of these were on the 05 models, but some crossed over into other years.

Either way both are great bikes and the prices seem about right for mileage and years, barring that they are in good shape.

Good luck and keep us up to date on what you end up with.
