Help,Trouble starting

how are you checking for spark? make sure you hold the plug against the motor to ground it when you hit the run button. Make sure you are holding the rubber boot of the plug wire when you do this or you will get a nasty little electric shock - unless you like that sort of thing of course

Ok, I'm not getting the light to come on the ignition module when i turn the key and hit run. i checked it with a circuit tester and was able to get the light on. i traced the wire back and it led me to the cam sensor. Will i damage anything trying to take it out or am i just thinking completely wrong? Could the Ehc be causing all these issues? Lee, thats how i checked for spark.

not sure about the TH ignition but....

just put corresponding marks on the sensor and the cam cover.

so when you re-install it the timing remains the same.

youe on the right track....proceed with checking the cam sensor....let us know your findings.....pics will help too

I pulled the cam sensor and it looked fine. there was a little bit of red fluid but not much. I think it's time to go to the shop. It will be a couple of weeks before i get it there because i'm low on funds but i will let you guys know about the findings. Thanks again for all the input! Hope it's not my ehc because i'll really take a pounding

Could the Ehc be causing all these issues?

the ehc just powers the ignition module. (major fault IMO) so if your getting the red led on the ign module then the ehc is doing its job.

seems odd how you said the led wasnt on then you "checked and was able to get the light on". if it doesnt stay on consistently then i'd say check the red wire from ehc to ignition for damage. same with the black wire which is the ground.

Good Call Marv.......check your connections..

I'm not getting the red light on the thunderheart ignition module when its connected. I did get the red light when i DC it and tested it off the neg. battery (circuit tester). The red light comes on the ehc when i hit the run button but not the ignition module. I dont know, but its driving me crazy

well either your ehc isnt sending the power or your ignition is shot.

pull the connector at the ignition from the ehc. put your red voltmeter lead to the red ignition power pin and the black voltmeter lead to ground. with the key on and run button switched, meter should read battery voltage.

already stated check connections.he said he checked but man its odd all he did is replaced battery now no spark.still sounds like he missed a wire or something.quess it could be something else went at the same time.:bang:

I had the same problem on an 04 Chopper about 2 months ago. Make sure the connector on the EHC is tight. You may try a little dialectric grease on the pins. If that doesn't work, it's an EHC problem. You can bypass that circuit by connecting a wire from the red lead on the ignition module to the tag light hot wire. If you do that, it will save the expense of an EHC but the kill switch will not turn offf the motor, you have to use the key. You'll still have to use the kill switch to staart it.
