HELP trans fluid problem

So I was making the stops to gather the supplies for my service. The joint that used to have royal purple 75W90 for the trans doesn't carry it anymore. Anyone got any creative alternatives? There is a HD shop in town, but I haven't made it over there to talk to those dudes.

Lone Dog, HD outsources there oil products to an unnamed source. So if it's a known fact that Redline HD shockproof is excellent for your trans, and Mobil 1 Vtwin motor oil is also excellent as well as Amsoil, Royal Purple and Redline motor oils why not use them? Also Redline MTL or there Vtwin primary case oil as well as Revtech is also excellent and all are ready and available from many sources. Trust in these suggestions because I got them from the best sources and members on this group.

don't worry Lone Dog - its not easy for me either - I would go with the recommendations here though - you should be able to get it on the net and get it shipped if you can't find it locally - thats what I do

Your right Wood!! Duh!! I had a brain freeze on that one. Didn't think about where he was. I suppose that the internet is about the only way to get these items then. I wonder what a package that would hold 5 quarts of fluids would cost to ship to Italy? maybe I could get him the fluids and ship them to him? It's an idea.

Lee,

who do you buy from that will ship oils USPS? I didn't think that was legal.
I have been thinking about having my folks send me a few quarts of "maple syrup"

Email the manufacturer and find out who the local distributer is and what name it is sold under in your country.

Being in the military, items can be shipped via the APO addy and it is cheaper.

I shipped LDO a 16lb flat rate USPS box to his APO / Iraq addy, and it was $8.95

I've bought Redline and Amsoil via internet and had it shipped - I think the Amsoil does get sent from somehwere in England thinking about it but I can't remember where I got the Redline from (home or overseas). Am gonna switch to Amsoil in my trans soon.

I don't think it is illegal to ship oil. It must be shipped at some point to the distributor. Be wary of USPS for international stuff - it gets there but takes a while.

Synthetics will work or any high quality 80 W 90 gear oil for that matter. I would suspect that a synthetic would give superior shear protection. If you don't have many choices, I'd go for the H-D oil.

You can buy direct from Amsoil online, I did a few weeks back and it was delivered in 3 days UPS Ground. You can ship just about anything ground.

Amsoil has warehouses all over the U.S. so no problem getting it ... call their 800 number on their website. Best deal is buy a case of 12 qts -- and get the 75w-90 FGR for your primary. I would go with Red Line Heavy Duty Shockproof for your tranny and amsoil for the rest. Also get a cleanable oil filter (bdmridgeback) lowdownchopshop.com carries them. They look awesome and you save the environment.

Thanks for all the inputs guys, but I guess I should reinforce that I live in Italy.
FEDEX, UPS, and the like are subject to Italian customs fees, and expensive as all hell to use. cost prohibative. I have a couple options, but I was wondering if anyone had any creative alternatives.

I have the exact same problem Lone Dog - it is more expensive but if you have a choice for overseas shipping, use FedEx everytime over UPS - also, if you can, ask the person who is shipping to you to put a low value on the package - keeps the customs duty down - you can also add that it is a sample or a gift

Well, I was able to run down some spectro conventional 80W90. Before I get preached at, yeah I know synthetic is better, but the shop orders it from the US, so I will experience delays. So, is there really any issues with me using conventional for this service?
