Help! Snapped exhaust bolt.

I snapped an exhaust bolt on the front cylinder. :angry::bang:I used vice grips to try and remove it since I was "lucky" enough to have some of the stud sticking out. It wont budge. The vice grips just slide around the outside. I suspect some type of loctite was used. Any advice is appreciated.

try a lil heat?. carefully. a stud removal tool if u can get ur hands on one .

EZ out drill and tap?

I feel your pain! Had same thing happen but on the exhaust bracket to frame bolt and man was it a chore but I finally got it out with an easy out bolt extractor. Should be able to pick one up at your local hardware store. They make different sizes so don't go to big or it can do more damage than good. I just followed instructions and took my time but was successful. I'm sure others may have ideas as well, but just my .02 cents.

Sears: Appliances, Tools, Electronics, Apparel and more from Craftsman, Kenmore, Diehard and other Leading Brands

center punch the broken bolt, then drill hole in center of broken bolt, the easy out is left hand thread, so as you are rotating counter clockwise, it bites more and losens the broken bolt

Thanks Steve. I did exactly that today. However I broke the EZ out in the bolt. I did have a brainstorm which worked. I took a socket smaller than the broken stud sticking out and pounded it on over it. I then used a rachet and unscrewed it out of the head that way. I was dreading having to drill it out bit by bit.

go to your local auto parts store and pick up a can of frezze off, heat your motor not the bolt wit a toarch then spray that stuff on the bolt it will come right out!!!

I suspected red Loctite as being part of the problem. I used some kind of spray bolt release.
