There should be 2 nuts snugged together at the bottom of the pushrod. Use 2 7/16" wrenches to hold the top nut secure while turning the bottom nut back down (lefty loosy). Once you get the two nuts separated, you can usually turn the nuts by hand. turn the bottom nut all the way down, then you can collaps the pushrod. I've never been able to collapse one so far that I could remove it without removing the rocker box but if all you're doing is replacing the O'ring on the bottom, you should be able to slip an O'ring under the bottom of the pushrod and seat it in place.

You probably will not be able to remove the pushrod even if you collapse it all the way. You may have to cut the pushrod with bolt cutters and the purchase and install the S&S quickie pushrods.

I cant even see the end of it , doubt it would even come out if I removed the rocker box?

what kind of nut is that on the rocker box

Your rocker box should be an S&S with 6 allen wrench bolts holding it in place. Remove those, take off the cover, then slide out the roller rocker shaft and the roller rockers will come off. With the roller rockers out of the way, the pushrods will lift straight out the top. Be sure to mark which pushrod came from which location as they are all 4 different lengths and can not be interchanged with one another.

the rocker boxes have 4 odd shaped nuts on them and if I took them off like your saying and being a beginer with this is it something I should attempt?

You must have the TP rocker boxes. They have 4 allen head bolts. Remove them, slide the top out of the way and then the rods holding the roller rockers in place can be slid out, thereby removing the roller rockers. Not that big a deal, even for a beginner. First, collapse all 4 pushrods. That will relieve tension off the rocker box. Replace the pushrod covers/o'rings. Get a new gasket set for the rocker box and replace the roller rockers with shafts, then the rocker box cover. After that, follow the "how to" properly adjust your pushrods. 4 full turns on the rod nut after reaching zero lash. Lock down the pushrod length by using the second "locking" nut.
Wait 15 minutes, make sure you can spin the pushrod by hand, then go to the next pushrod. You'll be a pro in no time.

It sounds like he's thinking the tappet blocks are the rocker boxes. The rocker boxes are on the top on the engine and the tappet blocks are where the pushrods slide down into. There held down with 4 12 point bolts.

If a picture will help, the tappet blocks are just below the wrenches where I am breaking loose the lock nuts on the pushrods.

There is a gasket below them that will have to be replaced if these tappet blocks are removed. I don't know if you would be able to remove the pushrods by removing the tappet blocks or not, but maybe the pic will clear up what is a tappet block. I believe that removing them will not be the answer to your problem of removing the pushrods.

You were right I thought they were the rocker boxes and I thank you for clearing that up for me , it could have been a real problem if I followed the advise given to remove the rocker boxes and removed the tappet block instead, not having much experience with this . I ordered the quick connects and bought bolt cutters the push rods should be in today after 1 o clock, keeping my fingers crossed this all goes well, I will post the results when I get it done.
