Help please.. Extra wire, what is it

Hey guys, need your expert opinions please, I'm replacing the gaskets in my rocker box covers, all is going well, simple job so far. I have removed the tank, unplugged the wire to the speedo and to the light gauges, have everything off and have installed the new gaskets. Waiting on new bolts tomorrow before closing up, cleaning things up a bit when I notice a 3rd wire hanging unplugged, no idea what it is for or where it goes? I believe the bike once had the effect lighting or whatever you call it, stumped, should I just tape it up and move on? I absolutely did not unplug it and I see nowhere for it to go? Help please. I tried to attach pic, not sure if it worked.

Cannot really make out the details too good from my end, however on some (if not most) there was an extra connectors that hooked up to an external annalog tachometer that was offered as option. It may be that-if not mistaken, three wire connector.

Wish I could tell the detail more in the picture, but unfortunately cannot, but it is possible that it is for such.

How many wires and what is the color code of the wires?

There are 3 wires, red, yellow and black, I was thinking it was for a tach also Fiber. So should I just leave it open as it is or would it be better to wrap with electrical tape?

Yellow is usually a Tach wire.

If it has a connector, no need to wrap it up. Just make sure it is up out of the way of anything.

I got it red, yellow and black its your telephone wire, one line only.

Next time you disconnect wires mark them, its easy 1 to 1 and 2 to 2 and so on that way you know where they go. If it doesn't have a number than you didn't take it off. You may need to look at the wire schematic to figure out where or what it goes to.
