help needed starter problems

I have a pitbull with a 117. When i try to start it. The starter will drag like low voltage an solenoid will stay engaged an boil smoke from battery. New battery, solenoid contacts, inner primary bushing. My question is how can i test starter. When pulled of it works fine.

Hook your positive lead from the battery to the post on the starter this should engage the starter. Make sure the starter is secured to something if it does not crank or clicks probably a bad starter/ battery . If you check the forumn moe did a how to on this...and is the battery smoking or is it coming from a exposed wire that may be burning?

I have already tried that. An it spins.

Its a drycell an it is battery smoking. ANY SUGESTIONS,.............

Just my thoughts, but have you checked to see if your comp releases are functioning right? Maybe loading the starter too much if they're not....which in turn would put too much load on the battery?
Or perhaps a sticky start button???

Yes sir both releases are working an i put slam button on. I hit start buton an the slam button at same time an it tries to turn just dont sdem to have enogh juice. An the solenoid some time stickes.

Hmm...I always thought the slam button was just in case the start button didnt function? Try using one or the other but not both.

Start button operates compression releases. Got to hit it to open them.

You can operate the comp releases manually by pressing the rubber caps down till you feel them 'click', then just use the slam. Dont know if you've tried this or not...?
