I was thinking the same thing. If the liner is pulling away from the sides of the tank, it may also be doing the same around the fuel filter/pump and be creating a restriction in fuel pressure thus causing the inability to stay running. I would definitely drain and pull the tank and see what you find in there.

Drain and pull the tank n let it sit for a week, what’s left of the liner will dry out and come out like a snake skin. I’m running without a liner and I don’t have to worry about another liner coming apart again. This is my 2nd tank from Big Dog n both liners came apart, I say skip the liner and if you think the liner helps it from leaking, get the tank fixed, it shouldn’t leak without a liner.

What are the benefits from running the liner in the tank? Mine has debris in mine, and I know I need to take it off drain it, and get all the remnants out of mine too, just trying to figure out whether or not to re-line mine. Also, what's the best way to get the tank lining out?

You line a gas tank also to help stop rust from forming. A lot of tanks that aren't lined properly will start to rust inside and allow gas in some cases to seep trough to the outside of the tank!

Update:
Well after a few weeks of just looking at the broke down new bike, I called the guys at Big Dog. (Know the shop is just 5 miles from my house and 1 mile from my office) The guys there were awesome! They said just bring it right in, I did that yesterday, after a quick one over they think it just needs the fuel system/pump rebuild kit which they have in stock. Great experience and even better guys! Nice to be so close, as they said people ship them bikes from around the world for service. Cool. I'll keep everyone updated...

Picked up the sickle on Thursday and rod it home... I immediately fell back in love with it. It runs out like a champ again! Rebuilt the fuel pump, fixed a few little other things, and complete service. I was all bundled up, yes, but it was still cold as crap! The guys at BDM here in Wichita are awesome! Looking forward to this summer riding out to Flint Oak to meet you guys!
