Help Locating a Squeak

Energy One

I have a 2001 Pro Sport and every time I let off the throttle I hear a loud squeak at the front of the bike. I've tried to reproduce the sound with the bike parked but can't figure it out. While riding, it sounds like the squeak is coming from the head stock, forks or the front of the engine. Would and engine mount behave this way? Any other suggestions?

Could be your upper engine mount or could be your rear pulley.
Took a while to figure out mine was the rear pulley (worn).
To test the pulley, put some beeswax on the drive belt to see if the noise goes away. If so, the pulley needs replaced.
The pulley on mine matched the wheels and a replacement was nowhere to be found.
I sent it to Supermax and they machined the teeth off and applied their overlay.
Worked great!

Might want to check your drive belt (if so equipped). One of the first places I would look. I understand you said it sounds like it's coming from near the front section of your bike, but it doesn't cost anything to check your drive belt adjustment.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I just took a look at the belt and pulley and they appear to be in good shape. Although the bike is old it doesn't have high mileage (less that 12K).

I also put the bike on a lift and pushed the forks forward and back and couldn't get it to squeak. It seems to be engine related the best I can tell. I noticed that there are heim joints from the lower and upper engine mounts. I shot a little lube on those and once this rain storm passes and I take a ride on my Zuki I'll try to come back and take the BD for a ride to see if that helped.

Thanks again.

Is the squeak high pitched or low pitched? I would get a mid range squeal or a chirp (not quite squeak if that makes sense) from my air breather after we replaced my ignition module and set it to a much more aggressive timing. It went away when we dialed in the carb.

Not sure if the pro sport used a compensator? They will produce some hard to find noises. Dont overlook the front brake caliper either. Make have debris hung up in there?
