HELP - Headlight bracket failure

Ok, I'll try to be explicit in y descripton, I don't have the BDM part#.

My dog is an 05 BDM Chopper.

My headlight bracket that attaches to the headlight bucket failed. The rightside bolt sheered, the left side bracket sheered, releasing the headlight at 90mph to come up over the handle bars, giving me the great experience of catching it at speed and getting from the #1 lane to the shoulder of the I-15 while holding the light ... big fun. :2thumbs:

So I go to my local BD dealer "Pat Clark Motorsports" and order the parts, I call the next day to see if they have an ETA, as I said I'd pay for overnight ( I want my Dog bak on the road damn it ). They say that BDM has re-speeced the part and is doing final tests on it prior to release, and they won't release an old part due to the possibility of failure and litigation(sp)?

So my question to you my dawg brothers is: Is this true, or is the dealer blowing smoke? If it's true wouldn't it be a recall? If it's true and BDM won't cough up a part for weeks, where can I get a compatible part?

I've had the same thing happen to me it. It wrecked my front fender and headlight bucket BDM covered it under waranty paint job and all.

Right now there are ZERO of the brackets available, so odds are he's giving it to you straight. Part number is 130-000102-00 for reference ($13.50)

Not sure on alternatives for you Mayhem ... sorry bud

Drag specialties or j&p cycles has got to have some generic one that you can use until a stock replacement is available.

Sounds like BS to me! BDM is only building 4 bikes a day, I doubt if a bracket isn't available. Call the factory! It may be the bracket is part of the headlight as an assembly, I'm not sure.

The service manager at Pat Clark was known to exaggerate problems to his advantage especially when he dropped the ball on something. Who is the service manager there these days? The guy I knew of was a musician, not a mechanic. and this was several years ago.
