Energy One

went for a ride after the weather warmed up today, made it about 5 miles then the bike started acting like it was time to hit reserve,no sooner do i reach for the reserve then the bike dies like the key was turned off.
tried to re start while coasting, all it would do was turn over and not fire.
after a couple of tries of just turning over and no start, the next time i hit the start button the starter kicks in for 1 second then stops then the hazards start flashing!
sometimes it tuns over, sometimes it does the hazard light thing, last time it was turning over i checked the plugs and they were getting spark,im also getting fuel.no odd lights are on on the EHC.

also ,the bike has had a NEW voltage regulator,EHC,and ignition module put on within the last 3 weeks or so.
beginning of riding season and my bike is dead.....its par for the course lately!
hopefully one of you knows whats up and i can be on my way in no time!
thanks in advance!

Well the flashing lights is your EHC telling you the battery is weak.

Do you keep it on a "Battery Tender"?

I would say you're battery died and isn't giving you enough spark. I would recharge it and load test it not just check it for voltage but actually load test it.
Ohmster talks about this all the time.

Good luck,
Ray

so...when your bike turns on the flashers by itself,it means the battery is low? its a new die hard been on the tender since new,,but ill have it load tested
thanks

Yes, I would also check and ensure all your battery connections are clean and tight.

just checked connections and tested battery with multimeter , i have 12.55 volts ,not bad for all the crankin ive been doin. pushed starter button and starter just begins to turn over, not dead sounding mind you, full force sounding, then abruptly quits, then hazards flash, now the next time i do it it may spin over like normal, just not start.
just noticed if i hold the starter button after it quits, it will click on like described above every few seconds. kinda sounds like your just trying to bump over the starter, but youre not doing it,the bike is.

Still sounds like a weak battery. As GS asked what is the CCA? That DieHard just might not be enough!

My battery was doing the same thing... checked it with a load tester at my Dealer and it tested o.k. BUT it would not crank the bike at times....:bang: I replaced it with a HD AGM 310 cca and no more problems starting. :2thumbs:

But the interesting thing is you said you just had the EHC replaced 3 weeks ago..... so did i (more like 6 weeks) and i have an issue with it quitting as i drive down the road?? no lights nothing... but ALL the lights on the EHC are lit up like a Christmas tree. I wonder if we have a bad batch of EHC's.
Ive been PMing with the Ohmster to try to figure it out..

But try a battery first..:2thumbs:

well...just came back from a ride around the block....just went to the garage turned the key on and hit the starter button...she cranked like hell as usual and fired right up
not sure on the CCA but because of this latest wierdness,im inclined to beleive some of my NEW electrinics make be f-ed up.
guess ill just have to ride it close to home to see if it screws up again
when it wasnt spinning over i even tried the diagnostic mode the new EHC'S have and it said all was ok
i dislike the electronics on the bikes immensely.

when mine died the lights were still on and the EHC lites were normal
is yours the newest with the usb plug on it? it even has a diagnostic mode if you hold the left turn signal THEN turn on the key. the EHC will lite up if somethings wrong.
i did that on mine and it said all was ok

NEW regulator, did you get rid of the circuit breaker yet? New vr shutting down internaly due to the bad conn. circuit breakers and draining your battery while riding causing to shut down.

i thought you didnt need to get rid of the breaker if you had the newest regulator as i do.

Definatly shit can it and put in the new fuse set up, the breakers are crap!! I personally think all the vr problems were from the breakers. The old vr's overheated and shorted out taking out a lot of stuff with it. I think (i may be wrong) these new vr are internally protected and just shut down instead of shorting out, causing your bike to die by draining the battery!! My bike has the old vr with the new fuse and no problems.

Just go to checker or something similar and get a 40 amp fuse and holder and put it in yourself. Mine is a brandname LITTELFUSE part# MAX40BP.
