Need to know what size starter is on the factory 08 Ridgeback. What brand is good. Any ideas

Do a search on "Bike won't start" and see what others have found the issue to be. You are saying the starter may be bad, how about the battery how old is it and do you kept it on a battery tender. Do not attempt to jump start the bike with jumper cables or you could fry the EHC. Have you tried to push start it, put it in 4th gear have someone help push and see if it will start. You may want to take the starter off and take it to an auto motive electrical repair service like Escobar's in Weslaco, Texas. Have them check the starter to see if it is in working condition before you buy one. Try the link above and diagnose it yourself. I think your starters is a 2.0 Spykes Starter for right side drive. That is what I have on my 2006 Mastiff. I live in McAllen, if you need any help let me know maybe we can hook up and get your dog going.

I think it the starter when i crank it it struggles to turn over the motor. When i take the plugs the motor spins freely
That tell me you need a new battery. If the starter was bad it would not spin your motor at all. I would get a New Battery it takes one with hugh balls to turn this motors. Harley sells the AGM that has 310 CCA for about 100 bucks. Don't buy a battery with less than 310 CCA. Lot of riders on here use that battery
This is the one I use it has 465 CCA

I got a brand new brille battery, and as for the compression releases have to press manualy
Why? They are electronic and work automatically
Put a volt meter on your battery and ensure your getting 12.8 volts minimum when starting. And make sure all your wires are tight with good connections
That doesn't mean the Battery is good you should have it test loaded and see what its putting out. if It is less than 12.V it will not start your bike. FYI I have gone through 1 BDM battery, 1 Big Boar and 2 Braille in the last 6 years so. The best I have found this far is the TR-B1550 with 465 CCA.
