My bike did the exact same thing when I left it out one very humid night. I disconnected the handlebar start switch and still did the same thing. I suspect the ehc or some connector in the harness is vulnerable to high humidity. As soon as the dew went away, all returned to normal and hasn't done it since.

Thanks Mike, Curtis over at WildStead hinted at the same issue and reccomened that I pull the tank and look for any wires that may have rubbed and to put dielectric grease in all the connectors. Andrew also hit the nail on the head when he told me its a wire grounding issue. These guys know their schitt !!!!!!!

You would think that the electronics in the EHC would be moisture proof being encapsulated in the potting material. But I know from experience that the potting material in auto coil packs does not keep moisture out 100%. I have damaged a couple after pressure washing auto engines. If I wash my auto engines now I either take out the coils or protect them in some way from the moisture. Maybe the potting material used in the ehc's and coils develop microscopic cracks or or voids when it ages or cures?

To me the interesting thing is that I have driven my bike a few times in the rain without any problems, but the first time I let it set out on a humid night it goes berserk the next morning when I turn the key on.....but the ehc and wiring did not get any direct water on it.

We've seen it numerous times at the shop. In fact our shop bike is an 2008 Pitbull, and it did the same thing for years. No rhyme or reason to why or when it was going to happen. It could me moist, dry whatever. It could happen just after being shutoff, or after sitting for long periods. Usually, you could cycle the keyswitch a few times, and if would finally "latch". We finally got sick of it and shitcanned the EHC. We installed a Wires Plus kit, and the problem went away.
I don't want to get sucked into a Wires Plus/PDM/Thunderheart EHC replacement argument, but the EHC IS the problem. C.A.Jones V-Twin | Custom Builds, Parts & Service

Happened to me about half a dozen times. Seems to only occur after a real cold night and I'm trying to start it while it's still cold out. Pulled the positive and negative battery cables and ground them problem gone. Today was 86 degrees no problem.
