Working on my 2004 Bull Dog still. I replaced the wiring harness with new EHC RIP everything lights up as it should. Went to start and the starter hung up and broke the jackshaft. I just installed a new Spyke jackshaft that is supposed to take away any grind(same as prior jackshaft). Cranked the bike this morning, turned over but no start. Attempted to start again and pinion gear on jackshaft jumps or skips over gears just throwing sparks (not electrical sparks). The jackshaft seems to have a lot of play or wobble in it although it is tightened to 60 inch lbs as per instructions(installed 3 spacers as per instruction to shorten gap between pinion and ring gear). I'm concerned that I'll break another shaft if I attempt to start anymore. Everything seems to be lined up, I can pull the pinion gear out and it snaps back as it should. For background info, I recently replaced the stator so I had the clutch basket and everything out(I have not had bike running yet since replacement due to wiring short hence EHC RIP). Any ideas where to check would be greaty appreciated.

PS I have been reading the forum and all I find is starter not engaging or clicking, can't find anything on pinion gear skipping or jumping.....maybe I'm not using the correct search terms. Thanks Guys.

So, that’s a standard Harley style starter, u shouldn’t have any issues finding parts to rebuild it, but I would definitely do a complete rebuild.
