:iagree:I road for a while with a carbon fiber novelty helmet for a few years and I upgraded to a DOT helmet just for that reason. I didn't want my wife to have to deal with the possibility of my life insurance not paying out because I knowingly road with a helmet that was not DOT approved. :(

On another note regarding helmets. This was brought to my attention by a friend of mine. If you live in a state where a DOT helment is required and you have an accident and suffer personal injury or loss of life, your insurance company may not be obligated by law to pay. Just something to check into.
Makes sense Insurance companies are in business to make money, if they can find away out of not paying they will...

Bell Pitboss, DOT approved and insanely comfortable. If anyone is in the market just try it on at the store you will put it immediatly next to the register.

Just another reason to fight to repeal the helmet law if you live in a state that mandates helmets. We did it here in PA in 2003.

So anyways the Outlaw helmets I purchased from leatherup are ultra low profile DOT opproved I like the colors, and they seem comfortable.....but ..... The chin straps are shit, cheap and slide back to far when trying to adjust. Then if you pull the helmet back or the wind does the straps release and slide to the back of the helmet. Choking me, Will post a photo for a visual aid. End result great looking helmet, poor straps = shitty helmet, but at least I have a couple.... I guess?:confused:Hope this will inform some folks.

Its the reason I have the Daytona skull cap in small (I wear a medium). Its DOT. Like there gonna check to see if I took a baseball and crushed down the styrofoam so it fits my head. Its still bigger then a non DOT but its not as bad as the Bell Drifter.

This is the Daytona skull cap DOT. Its really not that bad for a DOT helmet.

Does anyone know if the Pitboss clear flipdown visor works well in place of sunglasses and will it pass state regs for states requiring eyewear?

It works well however not sure if it is replacable with a tint version? My GF's came with a clear I didn't see any tinted at the store.

I would also assume it would pass state regs for eyewear. To be DOT approved I assume the shield passed the safety standards as well.

Well given the size of your neck and shoulders in the picts, you don't ever have to worry about people making fun of you for any kind of helmet you wear! Jokes aside, I found a skid-lid I liked, but the straps were crap. Maybe not the same case as you, but I cut and repositioned my straps so it pulled the lid more forward and down, and now doesn't choke me. Just saying, if you find the helmet you like, change the straps a bit to your liking.

So i bought the drifter for my first helmet…and the butterfly one for my ol’lady, do i like helmets no but i do want to have some on hand. We have had some brothers go down lately and both of the worst out comes could have been avoided with the aid of a helmet. 4 inch gash in side of head and the second brother, loss of memory for and hospital 3 weeks and 2 weeks at the VA hospital for therapy. Now what i would like to show is 3 size large helmets and their fit. Is there are any comfortable helmets out there and what do you perfer and brand you enjoy…. i should have had my lady pose for the pics sorry, you get me. (say no to Mushroom head)
What make is the red carbon fiber helmet ?

It is the helmet from leatherup.com. Manufacture is OUTLAW. It is also the ultra low profile, not the ultra slim.... Fyi

I have a novelty now. I just can't get myself to wear the mushroom top.

I would like to find a compromise. This company claims the meet all DOT except puncture test with a very slim profile.

Carbon Fiber Helmets / Kevlar / Head Trip

How are the Daytona Novelties. Are the truly novelties or "functional novelties".

BTW not interested in a helmet lecture or horror story. Just info exchange.

I just got my Pitboss yesterday. Pretty much just like every other mushroom top.
Definitely no smaller. Although, I am planning on wearing it and retiring the novelty helmet.
I am reading more and more about life insurance companies looking for reasons to deny claims and an illegal helmet may be such a reason.
I would hate to think that I possibly could affect the payout or even delay it and cause a legal nightmare for my family because I needed to look cool.

Damn!!! I was going to go look for one to try on.
Don't get me wrong, I DO like it.
I would say if one has a bigger, rounded face it would look pretty cool.

HOWEVER, I do really like the adjustable speed dial system. I can see how this will keep the helmet from riding back as most open face helmets do.
I also like the zip out ear curtains too. No more wearing a mask in the winter!

I can't give you an actual review because my Chopp is in the shop for a new starter. :bang:
