So i bought the drifter for my first helmet…and the butterfly one for my ol’lady, do i like helmets no but i do want to have some on hand. We have had some brothers go down lately and both of the worst out comes could have been avoided with the aid of a helmet. 4 inch gash in side of head and the second brother, loss of memory for and hospital 3 weeks and 2 weeks at the VA hospital for therapy. Now what i would like to show is 3 size large helmets and their fit. Is there are any comfortable helmets out there and what do you perfer and brand you enjoy…. i should have had my lady pose for the pics sorry, you get me. (say no to Mushroom head)

You look really cute with the pink butterflies :roll::roll::roll::roll:

I've found that Harley helmets fit the best with least mushroom effect.....imho

I use a full face helmet in april & may as I suffer from hay fever in this period :bang:.

I think that is the only full face helmet that fits to my Big Dog Pitbull :D.

I had a drifter. Never really fit right. I tried a bunch of stuff, but kept it kept lifting above 60 MPH. I got a Harley Davidson Hybrid helmet. Expensive, but I can not even tell I am wearing it. Light and no lifting.

My GF just picked up a new Bell helmet its called "PitBoss". I will have to say this is the most comfortable helmet I have ever tried on. It has a little wheel in the back of the helmet that you tighten for percise fit, it is nothing short of amazing piece of head gear.

That Bell Pitboss looks nice! I like the flip down clear shield. I always end up riding at night with my sunglasses at the bottom of my nose, so I can see. I guess it's a good thing though, I'm always out on a ride longer than I expected.

Demon, that is too funny! I guess it takes balls to model a woman's helmet. I'm surprised you could fit it!

German, that is a really nice looking full face. I do love the carbon fiber. What brand is that?
That's a cool helmet German. In Europe there are a lot of different helmets you can't buy in the US. Well, you can buy them but have to go on the internet and get them form overseas. European helmet companies have some of the coolest looking helms out there. I was wondering what brand also.

Good post Demon. I was looking at the Drifter myself. My problem is my gargantuan melon...XXXL. Have yet to find anything that doesn't make me look like a giant mushroom.

I just ride in helmet optional states for now...

I bought the Pit Boss a few weeks back and used it last weekend on a 800 mile trip. That helmet is the perfect tool for riding. Flip down shield if you want it, tighten the back if you need it, no lift, pure comfort and fits low on the head for a comfortable, stable and low profile fit.

Can't beat it. Period.

For a DOT helmet I have a Daytona Skull Cap. Its got the smallest mushroom effect I could find. To help even better, I bought the helmet one size smaller, and used a baseball to pound out the areas that were too tight. Helmet fits like it was custom made to my head.

For other times, I were a Voss Bullet Beanie...... It has enough protection for bumps and scrapes to your head. No helmet works over 15 mph anyway with a direct hit, so for the most part its about scrapes and bangs.

There are materials that are better for helmets, but because of the stupid puncture test, we can't have them since they can't pass DOT. How messed up is that. Its fine to have styrofoam as our protection with a big 1" thick wrapped around your head. But NO,,,,,, lets not look at what sport helmets are made of and use that material.

My hockey helmet has better protection then a DOT helmet, and its not 1" thick.

I think that is my main question/comment is we have these ideas and all this new technology and I'm still wearing a 1" thick mushroom. I would love to see some better inventions for the millions of riders that are out there? $$$$$$$$$$, a beanie, cowboy hat? Shit, just some better ideas. The vador mask above is actually pretty cool, but i just don't like the surrounding/clostophobia effect.

On another note regarding helmets. This was brought to my attention by a friend of mine. If you live in a state where a DOT helment is required and you have an accident and suffer personal injury or loss of life, your insurance company may not be obligated by law to pay. Just something to check into.
