heavy clutch pull

I am new to this forum,

I have recently purchased a 1999 Vintage Sport, 107c.i., that has a very heavy clutch pull. I have just had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists, and this severely limits my ride time.

In a search for this on the forum, I found a thread (http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/dyno-runs/5643-cheap-way-lighten-your-clutch.html) that suggests '08 ball ramps as a cheap fix.

Does anyone know if this will work on a '99 VS?

If not, does anyone have another suggestion?

thanks for your attention,

Dermer

TRUE COLORS COLLISION
I recently just bought the newer style ball and ramp for my bike for the same reasons you have,i have talked with the guys at Baker and they say clutch will drag if the new clutch pack isnt also installed....on the flip side many on here have written they replaced just the ball and ramp and everything went fine and worked well...until recently i remember reading about someone ,forget exactly who it was but it is someone on this site who I value their opinion cause of the consistency in riding and workin on their bike who said they replaced the ball and ramp and the clutch is draggin in specific gears ,so it was neccessary to remove it or buy the clutch pack......me personally ,i think i will hold on to mine until its time to replace the clutch and then do everything at the same time...on the other hand the new ball and ramp and the clutch pack assembly wont send you to the poor house.....
heres the thing everywhere you go....ask 10 people a question and you will get 10 different answers...

You can buy an arm extention for your year of bike called E-Z pull for about $35.00.
It bolts to your current ball arm and makes it a little longer, thus easier to pull. It is about a 1hr install, and no clutch drag or problems. You can find one at J&P cycle online,
or just do a google search for E-Z pull clutch. I installed in mine and it is a little easier
pull.

Thank you for the help and advice, guys.

I am looking for a local mechanic to really get an idea if the pull is caused by some other issue or if it should be that hard.

I am out of town right now but will get back to this next week.

Those EZ pulls are kind of hard on the clutch cable housing,... so,.... on the issue of clutch drag, do you mean that the clutch plates drag against each other when the lever is pulled all the way in?

clutch pull

thanks, everyone for your help,

there were several issues, beginning with the worn out and un-lubed clutch cable. After talking to lots of more learned bikers than me, I decided to go with a hydraulic clutch. the pull is supposed to be about 1/2 of original. Got most of the parts and am going to reassemble this week while it's raining. the hardest part is finding a master cylinder that fits the 1 1/8" bars. Standard masters ride the expanded bar and will not seat correctly. I will get back to this thread after the rework is complete.

You can convert it into a automatic by replacing your clutch with a clutch from Rivera Engineering. They have two different models, one full auto and one semi auto.
Do a search I think there are some members on here that have converted theres.

Looking forward to retirement
you can also put a Hyd assist clutch handle on. At Sturgis this yr I saw a 98lb blonde riding a ridgeback. I talked to her for a while and my wife asked her how she was able to pull the clutch because my clutch 0n my 04 chopper has about a 8lb pull. She showed us her hyd assist clutch, it has a 1/2lb finger pull.
