Headwork Done, rolling down the road!! ( TP boxes replaced ) - 05 chopper

Energy One
Well, its been done for 2 weeks but I've been riding and working so no posts, sorry.

I replaced the valve guides and TP rocke boxes with S&S. Upgraded valve size, cam (.600 ), valve springs, E-carb, and intake. I could not find anyone local that felt good about milling the jugs down .040" for the zero decking.

All went great, did all but the machining of the heads myself. Parts delivery was a bitch, some didn't ship on time, some showed up wrong ( note: no matter how hard you try +.2 rings will not go in a stock cylinder, regardless if the package says they're the right ones ). All the documentation was good in the manual and the parts that showed up. Got to buy a few tools in the process, always a good time. The touhgh parts were the ones I needed special tools for .. compresion release socket and cam mesh micrometers. Thank God I have a friend that has them!! :whoop:

I'm pretty sure I have some jet tuning to do yet, waiting till I get a 200 or so miles on it and get to open that main jet properly. :D It sound great at idle and the main jet and the cam curve seem to match up pretty good ... actually suprised me the first time I hit it in 2nd ... tossed me bak in the saddle and well you know, you grab .... THE THROTTLE .. tire broke loose in 2nd  .. needless to say I know about that now.

To those that are in the same boat without BDM coverage ... JUST DO IT. Escpecially the 05 ... the smaller valves and the restrictor plate take a lot away from what you should be feelingin the seat of your pants and those TP boxes just aren't the same as the S&S.

I got the bug big time now ...

great post. Doing the exact same thing myself although I use the word "myself" extremely loosely! That is way over my level of ability. I got the rocker boxers here but I'm also getting new lifters with travel limiters.

As for the rooky mistake I'm fucked if I can see it.

It was all pretty easy, I took a lot of pictures to tell me the routing of stuff. Take your time, dry fit stuff and think about the next step you'd do fine.

The throttle cables is a mistake, but its actuall temp, prior to polish. The rookie issue, is still there ... its a wire routing issue that I hope I won't have to disassemble to fix ...

compression release wire coming out the top instead of out in to the center. do I win a prize. Nice job by the way.

"compression release wire coming out the top instead of out in to the center."

WE HAVE A WINNER!! I'm gonna use a nylon snake and see if I can get them through the chase without taking the boxes off again ... NOOB! Man did that piss me off! Thanks for the support. I love the tag "Gas man in training" Thanks to Gas and the rest ... not sure I would have tried it without seeing all the information and support on here ..

Looks good, the S&S look way better than the TP.

If you could loose the brown drain line, it would help :)

Nice work! Hard to see in the pics.. is that a single oil cooler and a stash tube or dual oil coolers? Is all of the necessary plumbing included? (I'm gonna start out small)
