Was looking around the motor and found something I didn't understand on the heads. Aft end of the front and front end of the rear head there appears to be a hole. The rear cylinder has a bolt in it but the front cylinder has nothing. Can't get a decent picture without some disassembly. I have attached a link to the exploded view from S & S, the hole shows just above the valve in the diagram. My question is should both holes be plugged or both empty? Bike runs and there is nothing blowing out of the front cylinder head. I have ordered a manual for the 117 but don't have it yet so please excuse ignorant questions for now... I'm sure I'll have more even after the manual arrives.

Wow, I have the same situation. I did put a mirror down to look at the front cylinder and although it is drilled and tapped, there is no actual hole. It bottoms out. The back one has a bolt like yours.:flag:

I believe those holes are for bikes with the Intelligent Spark Technology (IST) Ignition. The front head has a provision for a cylinder head temp sensor and the rear head had a provision for a knock sensor... Don't take this as the gospel but that's what I think those holes are for...
