Headlight Set Screw

I attempted to replace my headlight bulb a few days ago and the set screw for the trim ring had actually been run all the way through the housing. When all was said and done, the hole in the housing was stripped. Anybody else experience this? I tried tapping a size larger and using a larger set screw, but there is just not enough there to thread. Any suggestions?

Happened to me. hole is to big and stripped. I do not run with one. I just make sure the trim ring is on tight. haven't had a problem in over a year

Try using a metric tap and set screw. 3mm - 0.5 or if that is to small a 4mm-0.7 should be a fine enough thread to be able to tap in

I don't have a set screw either. Been 2 years now and no problems.

I just had the same problem and wrote a thread about it. I drilled mine out then easy outed the freakin set screw but never put one back in. The inner ring is way tight won't move and the outside ring is tight up against it. Even if the outer ring comes loose your light will still be tight outer ring is basically for looks. So just check it every once in a while to make sure its still snug shouldn;t have any issues tho. I think little freakin set screw was just over kill...........

DO NOT put any locktite on the trim ring. It will stay on just fine. And leave the set screw hole open, so water can drain out.
