wear some rubber gloves, makes turning them much easier. On the inner ring you can use a punch or an allen to turn it as well. Clean it up really well and put some anti-seize on the threads of both when you re-assemble. I hope you're putting a Daymaker in there!
Yes. I seen an actual daymaker on amazon for the bike.

Wear rubber gloves and try to get it off. Then have a beer. Then, take a rubber maillot and bang the hell out of it. then have a beer. Then spray it with everything you have that loosens rusted parts and get a beer. Then try the rubber gloves again until your wrists hurt so much you can't hold a beer. Take a break. Then take the rubber maillot and hit it again and again... Take a beer break. Try the rubber gloves again. Then take off the lower mount and throw the whole thing in the trash and buy a proper headlight.... Because even IF you get it off you will never be able to put it back together the right way with the seal....
Glad to be of help....

When I first disassemble the headlight, I almost went mad. I was helped by a medical syringe with a needle. Pour there WD and very carefully stick the needle between the ring and the body of the headlamp. And pour in there WD. And then unscrew the ring. Preliminary look, at the bottom should be stopper plugs.

It's not easy for us to stay focused. None of us. As far as the headlight bucket, I'll take the set screws any day over the locking ring. I had an Adjures on a harley and you have to have 3 hands with it.
I actually find it quick and easy, can replace my bulb in about 5 minutes. I've kept my locking ring clean and well lubricated, for me it's much easier than the little set screws (they always find the floor drain in my garage)..:oldbang:

Have original light still (08'). I powder coated it Black. I have had to get inside approx. 7-8 times. Threads on lock ring have stripped pretty bad. I have had to JB Weld everything to keep all rings on. Sooooooooo next time bulb goes out have to trash whole light!!!! It definitely is "Jerry Rigged" ! ( my first name) ! Looking forward to shopping around for new one.

Knows some things
After you go through all that, and get it back together, put a dab of clear silicone between the head light and the ring. You can't see it, and will save you sme cussing if all that lube causes the ring the vibrate out.

Wow! I bought that Daymaker on amazon for $49.99. I got it yesterday and put it in, what a difference! I had to trim the rubber gasket ring a little but pretty much plug n play. My two rings came off pretty easy too. They member that made the suggestion of wearing latex gloves was correct, much easier spinning the outer ring off and back on. I'm going to post pics shortly
