Headlight Question

I was out for a ride today. Stopped at a traffic light and when I throttled up the bike coughed and shut down and a little smoke came out from engine area. Bike started right up and ran fine. Rode a few miles and noticed my high beams were on. Thought I bumped the switch. I turned them off but they come back on without hitting the switch. Has this happened to anyone? Could the switch be going bad or is this the beginning of bigger problems?

Check the common causes first, intermittent electrical problems are the worst in my opinion.

My 04 had similar issues. I changed out headlight plug for a ceramic one. Ran fine, then I had tach board flashing, rough running, shut downs and after a year of electrical gremlins I went wire plus. No problems for 3 years. Don't know if 09 ehc is similar but check its digreased up, connectors are greased and heat shrunk, etc etc.

It could be the start of a bad EHC. My chopper would randomly shut off. Then I lost my low beam alltogether. It was time for a wireplus. Good luck!

Check your head light connector in the bucket. It could be melting, check it before it causes more possible damage.
