headlight burned out

inside cone was loose and vibrated against bulb and burned out,, tighten the cone up, placed need silver star in, rode 20 miles shut bike off , after a half mile bulb exploded! replaced and drove it another 20 miles with no problem... i didn't touch bulb when installing and there wasn't any moisture in headlight,, what do i do now????

How did the bulb connector look? Some of the older bikes had issues with the connector melting. If so replace it with a ceramic plug. There are plenty of threads on this.
 
I would suspect, I know you said you didn't touch it, there was some form of contamination on the bulb. If there was no short present that is the only reason the bulb would actually "explode". If your wiring is good, troubleshoot with an ohmmeter for sure, then put another bulb in and be extra careful and see what happens. If it "explodes" again then you need to do some serious yroubleshooting.

thank you for you're input.. rode about 80 miles with new bulb and have had no problems.. i believe that the second bulb was either defective or did have contamination on it.. thanks again,
